Looking for GTKRadiant/Quake3 map maker for 3D Game
Hello,
I am looking for someone with experience in the creation of maps for Quake 3, we are making a 3D Online game using a modified Q3 BSP Format and we are using GTKRadiant to build the maps.
The name of the game is Kelion Online, its being developed since 2006 but due of the lack of people the game has never been finished.
The game is ambiented in a futuristic apocalypse, we are using a modified Irrlicht Engine version, mainly to fit the project needs.
There is not money bounty for this "job", since we are a indie company and we dont have incomings, but if the game is finished, our goal is to commercialize it and then the money will be spread around all the team members.
If you are interested or you want more information, please send a email to join@blexton.com with the following information:

MSN Address (if you have one)
Thanks in advance.

Well, i dont have any character / ingame screenshots since our artist are working on it.
The only image that i have is a image of the login screen, yes, basically is nothing but...
http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/7131 ... ginwip.jpg
I have also the login map of a older prototype client.
http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/1552 ... wiprh5.jpg
Yes, i suck at mapping xD
Thats the reason why i am looking for some map maker.

Yup, I'm an idiot and I'm still banned. I'm also a complete dick on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, the rest of the week I'm just plain stupid. I will continue to get all my posts edited by an admin/mod until I smarten up.
Re: Looking for GTKRadiant/Quake3 map maker for 3D Game
Because i want to work in the game industry as a programmer and the best way to get in is making a game, also, if i wanted to waste the people's time the project should be canceled like 3 years ago.Captain a13n wrote:Stuff.

Just ignore a13n, he is the local troll around here. A persistent one, I'll give him that.

Im still looking for a map maker.
Re: Looking for GTKRadiant/Quake3 map maker for 3D Game
details, give us details....

What kind of details?fKd wrote:details, give us details....
Re: Looking for GTKRadiant/Quake3 map maker for 3D Game
anything really... explain the game. got any concept art or anything?
Re: Looking for GTKRadiant/Quake3 map maker for 3D Game
Seriously, you really, really need to be a bit more of a salesman (saleswoman?) if you expect to get anyone interested at all.
You've shown us a login prompt and a cubic room with some cubes in it (okay, I'm simplifying a little, but still).
We know it's online (I assume that means multiplayer and not MMO?), and that it's futuristic (does that mean tomorrow, or next year, or the year 5000?), and that it's post-apocalyptic (nuclear? environmental? aliens attacked?).
What's the gameplay like? How is it different from a billion other shooters out there? What's the Irrlicht engine and how does it differ from vanilla Q3? What's cool and unique about your game that someone should spend hundreds of hours making a map for it?

Lambda: The guys asking for details and screenshots are excellent mappers. You might want to think about showing them something they can get excited about while they are showing interest
The ideas pjw offered are perfect examples of what might get a mapper interested enough to involve him/herself in a lengthy project.

Re: Looking for GTKRadiant/Quake3 map maker for 3D Game
Sorry, i am working on the english site but is not finished right now.
Actually i dont have anything to show since we have started to work "actively" in the game like a week ago (mainly because i have found all the people that i need).
The game is a MMO but not like WoW, Lineage 2 or anything else.
When you login, you are prompted to select a character, you can customize your character with different cloths and weapons.
After you have selected your character, you are in the lobby, in this place you can view all the game stages available to join, those game rooms are like "servers" with a 16 players limit each.
You can create clans and battle agains other clans, there is a clan ranking and every clan has a Clan Level, Clan Experience and Honor Points, in order to get higher in the ranking, each clan must battle with other clan and win, when you win you get experience points and when you get X experience points, your clan level is increased.
The honor points is a "voting" feature, when you battle with a clan and the war is finished, the users of each clan must vote the other clan from 1 to 10, (mainly this is for "trust level"), and then the final trust score is Totalvotes / numberofplayers, this is mainly created to, for example, if a clan has level 40 and 5% of trust, the clan is most likely using a "not-fair" gaming style.
When the game is finished, our goal is to sell premium items, items that have better properties that the default ones (weapons, cloth, special items...)
There is a class system in the game (actually the character classes are not defined), each class has different properties, if you, for example select a Ranged at the character creation, your skills are balanced to be better with ranged weapons, but if you want for example, to be better with pistols (another class of the game, for example), if you play with pistols all the time, your pistols skills are increased, so this means, you can personalize your character as you like.
Those are some works of our artists:
3D Modeller: http://gbpackers.deviantart.com/
3D Animator: We have 2 animator right now, i only have work examples of one of them: http://vimeo.com/1156356
2D Artist / Concept Artist: http://www.nekro.es
Programmer: (Me), i cant show anything but i have coded anti-cheats since 2006, Coded a MMO Emulator (so i have alot of kwnoledge of MMO Server Structure and coding) and modded a MMO Game since 2006 (without the source code, only using asm and memory hooks). I have a lot of experience coding network based applications and network protocols.
EDIT: ._. The forum has been offline for a while, i have forgot to add information about the engine
The irrlicht engine is a open source 3D engine, i am using it instead of the GPL'ed Quake 3 engine because its coded in C++ and i can use it for commercial use.
Actually im trying to get dynamic lights and Bump/Parallax mapping working along with lightmaps, i have got the dynamic lights but without lightmaps.
One question to anyone who have mapped for Quake 4 / Doom 3, The lights are all dynamic or there is lightmaps too?

Some thoughts:
-Your modeler looks to be very talented.
-Aren't you misusing the term MMO when referring to a bunch of 16 player servers?
-Definitely create one of those "design documents", make it extremely detailed and you will woo talent to do your bidding more easily.
-The idea of money buying an advantage in an online game is kinda, what's that word? Swarthy? It's also a far off projection of a) the project actually being completed, and b) people caring about it. Both of which are monstrous tasks.
edit: d3/q4 are all dynamic, although people've made lightmap-esque stuff with it, see: lunaran's strombine thing

The servers have 2000 player limit.Kaz wrote:Some thoughts:

Actually i have some design documents but they are all in spanish.
Actually the "premium item" business is pretty good, a lot of games with the same system of kelion online uses it (Mainly Asians MMOs)
Re: Looking for GTKRadiant/Quake3 map maker for 3D Game
Yes, he used texture projection lights to do the lightmap-ish stuff.Kaz wrote:d3/q4 are all dynamic, although people've made lightmap-esque stuff with it, see: lunaran's strombine thing
idTech 4 uses stenciled shadow volume dynamic lights. Many other engines (probably idTech 5 as well) use dynamic shadow buffer mapping. Each method has its own pros and cons as many engines are using a hybrid approach. I think lightmaps on a large scale use are becoming predominantly obsolete, limited to local texture projection use instead. It's also possible that idTech 5 may bake certain static lighting data into the megatexture, which would be kind of like a lightmap.

I was just confused by "After you have selected your character, you are in the lobby, in this place you can view all the game stages available to join, those game rooms are like "servers" with a 16 players limit each."

No problem, with server i mean rooms, wich are limited to 16 players but those rooms are all in the same server.Kaz wrote:Ah, no offense intended by any of this, they are just my thoughts.Lambda wrote: The servers have 2000 player limit.

Yes, i have been reading more about that.Yes, he used texture projection lights to do the lightmap-ish stuff.

Actually im trying to add support into the q3 format for Dynamic lights (store information about the lights) and use normal maps for bump/parallax mapping, those techniques add a lot of graphic quality to the maps.
Re: Looking for GTKRadiant/Quake3 map maker for 3D Game
How does the clan level affect gameplay? Is it just for match-ups, or does a higher level = some benefit or difference in-game?Lambda wrote:when you win you get experience points and when you get X experience points, your clan level is increased
This part confused me. What does that mean--a "not-fair" gaming style? Seems like anything would be fair, other than some sort of hacks...Lambda wrote:for example, if a clan has level 40 and 5% of trust, the clan is most likely using a "not-fair" gaming style.
How much work would it be to convert an existing Q3 map, and is that something that would interest you? I'm guessing you would end up with more maps if that's allowed.

The clan level is reset every month, it only has ranking purposes, no advantage, but the level in the character have advantages and disadvantages, for example, there is only weapons for characters of X level wich are aimed to kill characters of higher level.
The "not-fair" thing, i mean, if for example a clan is full of laggers, they use cheats or they are camping or something like that.
Well actually using a non-mofidied quake 3 map is just put it at the map folder and load it, but since i want to add new things to the map graphic quality, for example you must add dynamic lights to the map and generate normal-maps for the textures.pjw wrote:Lambda wrote: How much work would it be to convert an existing Q3 map, and is that something that would interest you? Also all the textures must be usable in a commercial project, so this mean, no quake 3 textures can be used. ( i have been getting the textures from cgtextures.com)
