Father who prayed instead of using medical care for child gu
Father who prayed instead of using medical care for child gu
Good. The next to last issue of Skeptic had an article on deaths of kids whose parents prayed instead of getting them medical care - some states have exceptions in their laws for religious stuff that would normally be considered abuse.
This guy's daughter had diabetes. She's dead, they gave him second degree reckless homicide.

why don't religious people read things like this and pray "hey god - wtf???"
no wonder calvinism/predestination came into being. when it's obvious prayer doesn't do anything, all there is left is either abandon your faith or assume god ignored you because of his grand plan, and nothing you do can change anything

Trust in god to heal his children but doesn't trust god to defend him

Sounds like evolution weeding out the extremists
Re: Father who prayed instead of using medical care for child gu
They can always argue that no matter what the outcome, it's all god's plan. That's why I don't understand why they pray in the first place.seremtan wrote:why don't religious people read things like this and pray "hey god - wtf???"

some hilariously good points in this thread

furthermore, the belief that there is an unchangeable plan must inevitably lead to a notion of prayer being not so much akin to a request (like going into a store and asking whether they have an extension cable of a particular length or battletoads), but instead a ritual expression of faith on a par with genuflecting or crossing oneself

Human stupidity knows no bounds.
Re: Father who prayed instead of using medical care for child gu
Obviously God put him to the test and he failed to pray correctly. Maybe it was a technicality like not using complete sentences in his prayers. This has probably made his faith even stronger, because the Bible says men are fallen and God is hard to please anyway; he knew the odds weren't in his favor and by the most probable outcome becoming reality this just confirms God was behind it all. GOD WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS.
Re: Father who prayed instead of using medical care for child gu
What a bunch of fucking pansy hypocrits. When she stopped breathing they called 911, clearly what they should have been doing is praying for her lungs to start working again. Boy I gotta tell ya, these halfbaked so called religious folks really get my dander up. If you're gonna commit, commit all the way =/
Re: Father who prayed instead of using medical care for child gu
Exactly. If praying is good enough to cure your child of a potentially-fatal illness, why isn't it good enough to keep your own ass out of jail?lars63 wrote:Trust in god to heal his children but doesn't trust god to defend him

Except the douchebag parents aren't dead, their daughter is. She could have turned out just fine. I mean, plenty of kids brought up in religious families turn out to be non-believers and actually end up contributing to society.bitWISE wrote:Sounds like evolution weeding out the extremists

the same reason planecrash survivors say it was a miracle they survived and god has a plan for them: human arrogance.seremtan wrote:why don't religious people read things like this and pray "hey god - wtf???"
forgot the fact that the other 200 passengers died in the crash, it was god himself who came down and saved your sorry ass.
Re: Father who prayed instead of using medical care for child gu
God helped.
Because the father is stupid, his daughter can also be stupid enough to be hijacked by someone malicious, resulting in strange life.
God helped that by making her gone in advance.

It's a fool-proof system, i.e. proof that you're a fool. The loopholes always win:tnf wrote:They can always argue that no matter what the outcome, it's all god's plan. Were my prayers answered?
yes- god is good
no- gods plan is mysterious and beyond me since im human and he's god etc...
This weekend my dad asks me the last time i went to church, i said 'i dont bother'. he says orly well how well are you doing with the big guy? There was lots to say but instead just changed the subject. it's so stupid how the whole family (except my stepdad) has completely brainwashed themselves.

i hate it when people do stupid stuff and then blame it on god's will. Take responsibility for your own actions.
Re: Father who prayed instead of using medical care for child gu
Yeah. That'll happen.

Oddly it's not only conciousness that makes the decision of monkey's action.ajerara wrote:i hate it when people do stupid stuff and then blame it on god's will. Take responsibility for your own actions.
