iPod owners

I've decided to give up on trying to salvage a machine and just reinstall everything for the owner.

They have 14 gigs of mp3s but all of them are also on their iPod. I'm the only person in the world who doesn't have one, want one, and has never used one, but they tell me that they can't copy the songs from their iPod back to their computer because of the way they were copied onto it or some damn thing.

So, is it the case that you can't copy music from an iPod to a computer that has been recently formatted and has a new windows installation?

Stupid question - but by that do you mean you can transfer all their songs - regardless of whether or not they were downloaded from iTunes - from their iPod to the computer with Winamp? Or do you mean that all the songs except those downloaded from iTunes can be downloaded?

istore purchased songs can be transferred just fine, you need the auth to play them tho.

in itunes you can auth up to 5 computers to play purchased songs. you can also deauth a computer for say youre getting rid of it.
some players have istore auth support - songbird is one of them.
