Should I get this?

I noticed that Quake 1, 2, and 3 and every expansion released for them is available on Steam, all for $30. Quake 3 is the main reason I want it, but how is the community compared to Quake Live? Is it hard to find a server? Is it full of pros who will swarm me like piranhas? I've played Quake Live quite a bit and I like it, then I downloaded the demo for Quake 3 and I liked the general feeling better (even though I was fighting bots).

Depending on how decent you are at quake live, you'll probably be able to handle yourself in q3a. Keep in mind though that the masses and newer players are at qlive now. So yes, you will run into veterans and get raped some times. Probably more then in qlive.

Also, finding servers seems to be a hassle these days.. you will definately need a server browser like ASE or qtracker.

If it's about quake 3, just pick it up for a few dollars in a store. You will actually have the case like you should as well

$30 sure sounds high :/ i mean, it's worth it, but yeesh.

Listen to Mr. Zyte. Steam is fer losers, and you could get the game fer about $10. I got the triple pack fer $9.99 in the clearance bin at the video store.

Well I play UT and I'm good at it. Got good aim and good evasive skills, so I can keep up with fast paced games. But I still get owned in Live only because I don't know the maps. I've gotten the hang of strafe jumping and all that good stuff, too. I might try to find Q3 somewhere for $10.

UT is what I'm into at the moment, and I've played Q3 for a very long time. Q3 is on a higher level as far as speed and skill. When you want to just lose yerself in a game, Q3 is it. It's much more versatile. i.e. mods fer any kind of play you want. QL is good fer generic quick frag.

If you're new into this play QL, easy setup, and all the frags you want... but definatly you should buy'em, those games are pure gold trust me

And yes, Steam is not so nice, get a good real copy sir.
