Base style map

Post by Zontain »

Hello all, I'm a relatively new mapper and i've been practicing a while tucked away in my little corner. I am however itching to get opinions on my latest work.

You can view all images here
http://bfpfinal.quakeunity.com/index.ph ... wposts-622

(It is a quake3 map yes)

I used the default textures i just tried to do something a little different.

I know i'm not a professional and that this map is by no means amazing but still..

Please do tell me what you think, maybe something i should learn or go work on. Constructive criticism is highly welcome.

(I was going to put the images directly into the post but yeah all it does is show the word image when i do.)

New mappers are always welcome to the forum! :)

I looked at your screenshots and they look too boxy, it feels like you are just learning the editor and trying to create shapes without any direction to what you want. I would highly recommend you first look at other peoples maps and find a style you like. As an experiment for learning the editor try to re-create that style, this will give you a direction to your mapping while you are just learning the editor.

Then find your favourite Q3 map you like to play and try to understand why it is good, what makes it feel right to you, gameplay and visually. Experiment with gameplay mechanic's, jumppads, lifts, trick jumps, item placement etc Read up on gameplay guides, Ive linked one below, it is for CPM mod but most of it still applies to vanilla Q3.

Somehow reminds me of:
the very same guy wrote:WTF is with the word Czars and what's it doing in this debate about health care? Pick a random word and choose it as a catchphrase for stupidity?

I don't believe in what they are trying to do to our country because of BANANAS! BANANAS BANANAS BANANAS!
Yeah, another useful post done by monaster. Seems that I am the one to join the "useless-crowd" next. At least if I don't post some screenshots of recent projects when my FTP server is working again. Regarding zontain's project: looking forward to newer versions of your map, good to see lots of fresh meat entering this forum lately. Q3 will never die! NEVER!

Seems we're having the same problem. At least where I am it's not 12:40PM...
