That depends entirely on your location and background. I'm out here in the Bible Belt of BC and its a little surreal, to say the least.Dark Metal wrote:
Huh? Religion is mostly something for the Elderly and Immigrants here. I don't know anyone other than my mother who would say that religion is an important part of their life.

We don't actually share the same head of state...seremtan wrote: that's interesting because occasionally i wonder if a union between britain and canada wouldn't be a good idea. we've got a huge economy but 61m people crammed on to an island, canada has 30m people and a fuckton of empty space. same language (apart from the quebecois), same head of state, same political traditions, plus canada's one of the few countries we don't actually hate

According to him Vancouver is gun-crime capital of North America and is a terrorist-act hotspot that needs constant police vigilance (and every citizen packing heat) lest he be raped by a bearded man screaming "Allah!"Dark Metal wrote:There's a Bible Belt in BC?Tormentius wrote: That depends entirely on your location and background. In other words...I find it very difficult to take everything he says seriously on anything. His world view seems to me to be through a distorted lens.

They're cracking down both cannabis distribution and prostitution as well. Not that it makes it a worse place to live, but the image that many people have of the Netherlands being a valhalla for stoners is quickly turning into a facade.r3t wrote: In that case, skip the Netherlands. That idiot Wilders is riding high in the polls for the next election

Re: Best country to live in?
In terms of best place to live, I have to say Melbourne is looking top shelf. It's pricey but worth it.
LawL was right: Australia is fucking paradise.
And Canada really is a great place...as long as you stay away from Quebec.
- Vancouver and Toronto really are "the shit" and are places I'd recommend.
- Calgary and Edmonton are pretty weird (Edmonton's a shithole).
- The prairies will freeze or melt your testicles where you stand while boring you to death.
- And if you really, really want to fuck your sister, you'd fit right in on the east coast.

I'm still happy to live in NL, however there have been some evident changes in social climate and the tone of public debates.
The Christian coalition which is in office doesn't really help much either.. And as r3t stated Wilders is getting horribly popular in some parts of Holland.
I've always heard good things of Canada, although i've never been there yet. I'd love to live a for like a year in a city like Montreal or Toronto.

gayest thread ever...
Re: Best country to live in?
Same choice here. Pechtold is one of few politicians i can relate to 'idea-wise'. He also seems eloquent and a good debater.Ryoki wrote:Everything will be reversed next elections, don't worry! Just vote D66.
Lousewies van der Laan, not so much

Btw Japan. Definitely not to live permanent but living in a city like Osaka would probably be overwhelming but awesome.
Re: Best country to live in?

Re: Best country to live in?
She's an adorable amsterdam-zuid-huppelkutje, but i would never vote for her...
