HD3850 vs HD4670

Post by N|K »

I am looking at getting a new card, and am chosing between these two.

The 3850 has:

Core: 668Mhz
Memory speed: 700Mhz X 2
Memory capacity: 512MB DDR3
Memory interface: 256-bit

The 4670 has:

Core: 750Mhz
Memory speed: 800Mhz X 2
Memory capacity: 1024MB DDR3
Memory interface: 128-bit

I'm sure you can all guess why I am concerned.

What do you guys think will perform better?

Can't you stretch to something like a 4870? A few weeks ago they were rated as the best value for money cards. Although that might have changed by now.

Thanks for that website. It was really helpful.

Nah, I can't use that card since I have an AGP bus, and that card does not support it.

Ah. If you're running old processor/motherboard/memory then you'll likely be bottlenecking yourself anyway.

Also, tnf is a moderator.. he can read that report.

How bad do you think I would be bottlenecked?

Yeah, that wouldn't suprize me. Most moderators on forums are mindless dumb shits that rarely contribute to discussion.

It seems no one picked up on my concern.

Although the HD3850 is slower, it has twice the memory interface.. Would this make it out perform the HD4670?

You might have better luck in the Technology & Troubleshooting forum N|K.
For the record, I agree, both cards will offer similar performance on your hardware, as the CPU and motherboard will act as a bottleneck, so it's probably best to choose the cheapest one.

FYI, you're getting a certain degree of heat from the members because:
  • You're a new member and we don't know you.
  • You posted in the wrong forum and you're getting a subtle hint to post in the right one next time unless you want to continue getting hazed.
  • Mods here are everywhere and are very likely to contribute as long as you don't piss them off (you're not doing well here).
  • You're asking about popping in a modern GPU into a really old computer which is akin to, well... 2x 56k modems.
  • You're making us do the guesswork as far as what your computer specs are instead of listing them as you should in the first place and therefore wasting our time.

Go away for a week and the retards come out of the woodwork. I only deleted the rest of your posts just because they didn't make sense after deleting N|Ks flailings.
