Mostly, it's not as 'bloated' as the ATI release, and it tweaks a few minor things here and there from the official drivers. Although myself wouldn't directly say it, most people report slightly better IQ than the ATI drivers, as well as a very slight performance increase (a few benchies done on some sites did show a 2-5 framerate increase).
With the Omegas, I went to their site and it only has a download link for their version of Catalyst 5.1. I've had trouble with the 5 series, do you know where I can find the last 4 series Omega to try?
With the 5 series I saw a 40% decrease in framerates on my 9800 Pro...wtf?
sounds like you need to clean off the old driver, install the default vga drivre, and then apply the new one.
i know for sure that the older drivers have issues with HL2, Doom3 and Thief 3, as well as any games that use those engines, you'd be selling yourself short if you go back to them.
their's no reason you should have issues with the new drivers... unless you have some sort of non standard card, in which case you should still be able to get a updated driver from the manufacturer's site.
Question though:
There was supposed to be some method of having different profiles for different games. Is that only part of the Catalyst Control Center? I don't use that, and I don't have that feature.
I like having AF/FSAA enabled for Q3, but not for all OGL games (Doom 3, etc).
Well, I tried 5.3 again yesterday.
Using the CS:S "Video Stress Test" my framerate dropped from 105 with 4.12 to 70 with 5.3.
Not only that, but it seemed very jerky. I tried playing this way and was getting my ass kicked.
There's a possibility I just have some conflict specific to the HL2/Source engine games, I didn't try Q3 or anything to test framerate changes there.
But then I tried Omega's 5.1 (their latest, they're not up to 5.3 ye) and am getting 105fps again with any benefits 5.1 may bring so I'll hang on to these.
Well, fuck Omega drivers too.
Back to 4.12 for me.
The Catalyst worked fine for a few days. Then I one time when I booted up, I had no video. But I restarted it (via the power switch...) and it was fine.
Then today, I couldn't boot into Windows. Each time after loading it, it would restart, again and again.
