ha - very true.

I do admire anyone that really tries to give up as I know it is not easy (not having smoked myself but having a family who all smoke)

i quit about 4 1/2 years ago for good, and haven't had the slightest urge to light up since, and see no reason why i ever would (unless a fucking giant extinction event asteroid were heading for earth so it made no difference). lol @ YourCancerpa for announcing this after only a week

Way to go Gwamps! If you have a bad craving try dropping for a set of push-ups. The exertion and deep breathing will get rid of your craving. Drinking water also can help.

starting to smoke was the worst decision I've ever made in my life. Shit's tough to kick. I quit for a period of 3 months, ony to sucker myself into thinking I could be a casual smoker...I was 20.

Good for you, YGP.

I've been smoking on and off for 20 years now.
I've found that it's very much a contextual thing, where I just have to smoke, because I associate it with certain activities and situations.
For instance, at work noone smokes, and I can go for hours without smoking, but once I get home and do my daily routine, I have to light up.

Longest time I've quit is 1 year, after I was in an Alan Carr stop-smoking seminar.
But after that I found it's very easy to relapse;
You're in a bar, and after some beers a friend offers you a smoke...
It then takes Herculean strength to decline.

Hang in there and stay strong

Let me elaborate a bit. I used Chantec to "help" me quit.
The Chantec program works as such...
Week 1: 1/2 doses of Chantec and you continue to smoke. Day 1, 1 pill. Day 2, 1 pill. Day 3, 1 pill. Day 4, 5, 6 and 7, 2 pills.
Week 2, 3 and 4: Full doses twice a day and no smoking.
You can continue with the full doses twice a day for pretty much as long as you think you need to. Doctors say that you should only need to use Chantec for up to 3 months.
How I used Chantec...
Week 1: Like above.
Week 2: 2 pills and no more than 5 cigs a day.
Week 3: 2 pills and no more than 3 cigs a day.
Week 4: 2 pills and no more than 1 cig a day.
After week 4 I stopped smoking and using Chantec. I've since been out for drinks with friends that smoke, I work with people who smoke and I still haven't had a smoke.
When you quit smoking, you really have to want to quit or you won't. To never smoke again, you have to never want to be back where you were when you started trying to quit. I'm at the point where I REALLY don't want to smoke again. I'm also a goal oriented person that doesn't want to be smoking after I'm 40.

The two times i had stopped was because of something drastic... the first time a metal but can that had probably never been emptied in years tipped over and opened up, the inside of that thing was so fucking disgusting that made me stop right away. The second time was after I helped someone try and push start their car, after 10 or 12 tries I had become so out of breath it made me stop again... keep in mind i am a star athlete and had never come close to being THAT out of breath.

Had I started smoking, I'm sure my parents would have beat the shit out of me and oddly enough I have them to thank for that.
