Earlier I had a CD that wouldn't eject but it could be a complication from my Macbook. I just setup Windows XP Mode and I'm pretty impressed with how simple it was and how fast it loads/hibernates. Once VS2003 installs our main software solution file will rape and pillage XP so I'm curious to see how well the RAM and disc access hold up under that stress. If it does better than vmware fusion I'll love Windows 7 long time.

well, i say new. it's a DP DC 2.5 GHz G5 8gig RAM etc etc.

it's still blisteringly quick. i stuck a two 1TB drives in and stuck a copy of 10.5 to use for music, pictures and film

Performance in Windows XP Mode feels worse than Vista running in vmware fusion. I might even go as far as saying it unusable for large development projects. The most annoying issue I keep having in Windows 7 itself is my DVD will randomly refuse to eject any media until I reboot into the Apple boot menu.

Also just had my first Windows 7 freeze that I had to power down to get out of. I believe it is the same issue I had in Vista on this machine. I think it is related to the audio drivers.

Well, if anyone was curious, VS2003 can be made to work with Windows 7 with pretty much the same efforts it took to make it work in Vista. Performance is pretty incredible so far, both in VS and IIS serving up the pages.

Firefox seems to run like absolute shit on Windows 7. Not only is it very slow but AJAX sites pretty much don't work.

Chrome causes me to freeze but that could just be my Macbook being lame in an unrelated way.

Firefox has been running like lightning on my box. I'm on the 64bit version (still on the RC - haven't installed the release version yet). I assume you d'led the latest version of FF?

Yea 64bit Ultimate with the latest FF. Maybe its Firebug.

I'm curious how others have theirs set up.

W7 is excellent. I have home premium. But there's no drivers for my scanner and printer, so I'm using VMware workstation with XP and they work perfect now.

Funny that 1 minute load time is now acceptable.
I remember when I could hit the power switch and have a browser open less than 30 seconds later. 24, IIRC.

Anyway - I dreaded Vista but the machine came with a Window 7 upgrade so I went ahead. I really like Vista. The time it takes to load is less than 1 +/- minute from hibernate or a cold boot, and I have had no problems with it.

I've seen their adds in PC gamer magazine and finally decided to check them out. My next desktop will probably be from these guys. Pretty impressive.

Kubuntu 9.1 hits 24 seconds on my MBP with a 5400. But the annoying part is having to wait through two boot menus

The hard drive is the bit that really lets the MacBook Pros down; I recently booted up my old G4 Powerbook with a 7200 rpm hard disk (60 gigs was a lot back then) and it absolutely screamed for many tasks in comparison to the MacBook.

That was what inspired me to drop an obscene amount of money on a Samsung SSD for my (recently sold) aluminium MBP. An SSD does make a huge difference to the snappyTM
