HD check utility for win7

Post by Fender »

My laptop stopped booting last night. I was able to take out the HD, put it in an external enclosure and get all my data off it. I tried the built in HD check in Win7, but it spent a good 15 minutes on one file.
Any other decent utilities for this? I don't want to bother w/ a re-install of Vista if the HD failing.

Ugh... $90.

It appears my data is intact. I'm just trying to save myself the time it takes to re-install Vista, not salvage the data.

I could buy a new drive for $60 - $80.

It should still be under warranty. I'll check the manufacture's website for utilities.
Here's the drive:

Used Hitachi's DFT utility, def HD problems. Just under(?) 1 year old, shouldn't be a problem getting it replaced.

RMA created.

Anyone know of a cheaper version of this: https://www.wic-store.com/Seagate-Inter ... _p_12.html ?

Hitachi is apparently a packaging Nazi. Anything other than a brand new static bag and foam packaging will void your warranty. No peanuts, no bubble wrap.

Anti-static bags, foam and cardboard are hardly expensive. Certainly not $15 worth, just make your own.
