star trek - 8/10 - for the second time. the supernova-that-threatens-to-destroy-the-galaxy nonsense is just as nonsensical, but it's a good combo of old popular franchise, popcorn and feelgood

That's pretty much it for me. I actually had no real interest in seeing it.

Jennifer's Body - 7/10

Didn't expect much, but I was actually pleasantly surprised.
Only saw it because it's written by the same writer responsible for 'United States of Tara', which I really like.
Although it's all overly hip and selfconscious, and has a pretty mediocre plot, there's some very funny dialogue, and overall makes for a worthwhile watch.

Also Megan Fox is perfectly cast, for once, with her 'I'm hot shit and I know it' vibe.

SPOILERS for a shitty movie:

It was almost exactly like TDAT.

Annoyingly invulnerable main characters who constantly escape unharmed at the last second? Check.
American president who sacrifices himself for the good of the people? Check.
Tidal waves? Check.
Politicians learning the value of holding hands together and singing "kumbaya"? Check.
Shaky father-son relationship strengthened by the world's destruction? Check.
Happy ending in which everyone stares up at the crystal clear sky with hope and relief? Check.

Just another Roland Emmerich shitfest with decent CGI.

Agreed. After watching for a 2nd time, and not being hammered, it's an 8 or maybe 8.5. Would have been a 9 if they hadn't shoehorned the "have been, will be", "damn it" and other dreadful panty filling lines for ST nerds in. Shaft, I’m looking at you.

I love the use of the lens flare to highlight the tech on the ship.

the blob (1988) 8/10
underrated cookie cutter monster movie that does exactly what it's supposed to do and does it very well.

rob zombie is apparently lined up for another version in 2011 - not sure what to think of that.

Its Zombie. If you like his work it'll be great and if you don't it will probably be a let down. There seems to be little in the way of middle ground when it comes to opinions on his movies.

i like his stuff a lot, but he relies on characters to carry his stories (look at the excellent 1st 3rd of halloween compared to the drivel it slides into). how much interaction is he going to get from an indeterminate blob? maybe it'll work really well if he doesn't need to spend much time on the villain.

Audition 8/10

Without a doubt.. the most fucked up Asian film I have ever seen.

A mans wife dies, his friend wants to hook him up.. so His friend holds auditions for a film that doesn't exist... So the man can meet some cute chicks. The man falls for a hot chick... she turns out to be the most fucked up chick/thing on the planet. The pay off is the final 3rd of the film....It gets so fucking bizarre its hard to comprehend what the fuck is going on anymore.

Yeah, great movie. Interesting story.
Visually impressive because of the prolonged, single shot action sequences. That must have taken quite a few takes.

tasnformers 2 - wtf/10
probably one of the worst movies i've seen. thought it would be ok for a rental... sort of a fun action flick, even if it lacked substance. fuck.

seven pounds : 8/10
Movie had terrible marketing when it was in theaters so I caught it on Shotime. Easy to figure out but enjoyable human interest movie. I have to say Will Smith has come a long fucking way from mouthing the entire script on Fresh Prince. Best performance I've seen from him.

Great art direction completely fails to carry an uninspiring movie in every other way, ruined by a simple and predictable plot and zero-dimensional characters. A movie for children, or retards.

Taking of Pelham 1-2-3

7.5/10 - decent movie with surprisingly good pacing. Should watch the original with Walter Matthau.
