10 years ago today!

Post by unitool »

It was 10 years ago today that I signed up for the Q3W LE forums as a total noob. Happy anniversary to me!

It was about 10 years ago that I started serious mapping with this map for Quake 2.

Holy crap. It seems like forever and ever ago. At the time, I had no idea that I would switch careers to game design.

Uni, Doom4 MP better be good, or I'm going to blame you personally. ;)

Also, I downloaded this picture 10 years ago.

It's been useful.

To commemorate this momentous occasion, I present you with an exclusive look at this never-seen-before Q2 map. PJW may have shown you his first publicly released map--pfffftt, I say. This is literally my first map I ever made!

Entitled "The Beaverhouse," it has nothing to do with beavers or the houses they build, and everything to do with the existential crisis that man faces when he reflects upon his own finitude.

I hope you are planning to convert that map to Q3! I love playing around in a beaver box! :p

wviperw, please post some more pics, these are hilarious!
For a literally first map it's not bad at all. Most of us just made a box I guess (copied from bubba's tut).

Since we're going old skool...

My first map for Q3 ever... Antigrav:

And some other early stuff:

Birthpod

Twin Peaks (CTF)

Unnamed tropical island map (ZOMG CRYSIS!!!)

I wish I could find my old Half-Life/Team Fortress Classic stuff. I had a TFC beach invasion map with explosives and turrets pointed at the beach and blown up buildings. I knew nothing of optimization and it ran like absolute shit (but it looked cool).

It wasn't very fun to play, I built it in about 15 minutes and bots have issues navigating the low gravity. They tend to all hang out on the bottom floor (some jump pads would have probably helped, but oh well).
