I hadn't heard about this game until PA did their Friday comic on it but I'm so glad they did. They basically took Zelda and God of War, sprinked in some WoW, and topped it off with a whole lot of badassery. It sounds like the game would be shit because it plays so much like other games but the execution is epic. The voice acting is top notch including Mark Hamill and Liam O'Brien. I'm with Gabe on this being an homage rather than derivative. If you like puzzle driven RPGs, you gotta check this one out.
It's taken me a good four hours to get up to the first major boss and she's fucking hard too. It looks like a simple single button masher but you're literally using the entire controller.

And I'd like to echo seremtan and ask all the character designers out there, seriously wtf? Back when you had to make characters with a total of 30 polygons, you had an excuse for extra blocky people. What's your excuse now? Ever since Epic started doing it with Unreal and Gears of War, male characters are all walking tree trunks.
About 10 hours in. Working my way towards the last of the first four bosses. Not sure what happens after that but I wont be surprised if I have to fight Samael. Picked up a ton of shit yesterday though. Got my gun (shares ranged slot with blades), my other gauntlet (shares weapon two slot with scythe), the ability to activate time stopping devices, and best of all my badass flaming horse. Got to use a few huge enemy guns too that are crazily overpowered. Had an angel killing contest with a huge Irish giant. Beat a boss to death with a train car. Still having loads of fun.
Yeah on Penny Arcade they were enthousiastic about it, which sparked my interest as well, but in the gametrailers review not much of that sort of enthousiasm is to be found. It's not exactly a genre that appeals to me so I'll skip.
I strongly disagree with him in regards to the artwork. The portal gun was a bit ridiculous but the puzzles using it were enjoyable. I guess the key to enjoying this game is not having beaten any of the games it is similar to (which I have not done). Although, my roommate Joe enjoyed all those other games and loves Darksiders as much as I do.
I'm really excited for the second one but it wont be out for another year. This time you play as Death with a giant scythe that can be taken apart and used as multiple weapons.
Pisses me off all these games needing to be logged onto the interwebs to play. Still not finished the first one as I was side tracked by Assassins Creed.
