Why does Q3 always drop an arena?
Why is it that no matter how many maps I have installed for Quake3, one arena is always dropped? The console states that it is to make the count divisible by 4, but that really doesn't seem to be the case. It doesn't matter if I install the right amount of maps or not, it always drops an arena (and it always seems to be just one arena, which makes no sense). I tried adding/removing arenas, but it never changes. It's always the same map, too. In my case, it's a custom map called "morpheusxg".

I wager said map has a bad .arena file.
Re: Why does Q3 always drop an arena?
Open up the maps .pk3 file with your Winzip program and look at the .arena file, or if there isn't an .arena file in it would explain why it isn't popping up. Plus..look at the .bsp name in the maps .pk3 and when your in-game you can open up the console and type in \map <mapname> It's pointless to use the in-game skirmish/multiplayer menu in my opinion.

Re: Why does Q3 always drop an arena?
The only thing I noticed was that the author had put two maps in one .arena file. Don't know if this matters.
I just did some testing, and it really doesn't matter if the arena is dropped or not. Basically, I usually play Quake3 with my brother online (after giving him an exact copy of my own modified Q3 folder), or offline with bots. We always play with UIE, and have it randomly choose 10 maps in the gametype of our choice. I was concerned that any arenas that were dropped would not be added to the random map rotation, but I just now proved that wrong. I added MorpheusXG into Quake3 by itself, and UIE did eventually select it after having it choose random maps.
I agree, the map selection menu is quite pointless; I never use it either. Now that I know UIE doesn't even use .arena files to choose maps in the Quake folder, none of that matters at all. Of course, the limit of 1024 maps is still there. UIE does have a problem with that one.
Thanks for the responses.
Edit: Hey v1l3, I noticed that you had sent me a PM, but Quake3World stated it was "deleted before it could be viewed". Did I accidentally delete it myself, or did you?

You're the second person that has said that to me..hmm. When I reply to a pm, after I send the reply I usually delete the message in my inbox after I send the reply. Does that make the reply disappear? I dunno..anyways I uploaded Lukin's maps that I have to filefront..here's the link:
http://www.filefront.com/15427509/l3dm2-4-6.zip
l3dm2 is actually a remake of plduel1 from the Polish Duel Mappack(that's at ..::LvL). I did testing on it back on the old Promode Forums in like 2004 I think..it's a bit bigger than plduel1..I think he was making it for TDM..can't remember for sure, but the bots sometimes get caught on the bouncers. It's a good map though. ..l3dm4 is cell shaded with an animated Razor skin, and l3dm6 is a TDM map..and it also has a Clan Arena map in the .pk3 also...it's probably my favorite map of his.
