Win7 install and problems...
Win7 install and problems...
I've done it again... managed to mess up a perfectly good computer. Windows 7 32 home premium was running just fine on the box, but the processor can support 64bit and I wanted to use all 6gb of ram, so I bust out the 64bit disc and install it. it took 16 hours to install which makes no sense to me as to why it took that long... At this point, everything on the computer is slow motion and I mean SLOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW. Took half an hour just to shut down. This is unacceptable so I am trying to reinstall 32bit and it is going just as slow if not slower.
What is the deal here.... am I doin it wrong or what is happening??

Re: Win7 install and problems...
Ok problem may be solved.... read something that said the install should be done with no more than 4gb of ram in the computer, so I took out two sticks (that are old and may not be compliant) and kept the two new sticks in there. Right away the install interface was as snappy as it should be so this may go well for a change.

That's weird. I installed Windows 7 x64 on my computer with 12GB of RAM and installation took around 20 minutes. I'm not sure why you had to pull out the memory, perhaps it was a BIOS issue? Anyway, fixed now so hope that stays good for you.

I'm quite sure it was the ram itself. After win7 was installed, i put the two sticks back in and then it was back to the extreme slowness. Took them back out and back to normal. Oh well, now there's two open slots for new ram

Re: Win7 install and problems...
I would check for mobo firmware updates and run memtest on your sticks of RAM to check if perhaps one of them is faulty.
