I totally disagree.
I totally agree with LXS here. A happy Hollywood ending would have spoiled it for me. I too was a bit "wtf?" as I had expected to be warped away to Xen or something (although it's not too late for that, is it?) as a build-up for HL3, but it has grown on me since, and now I think the ending was excellent.

All the time-freezing, über-controlling stuff the G-man is into set the mood perfectly IMO. I like that idea of Gordon being a puppet with G-man pulling the strings.

(not that i agree with it all)
mostly bullshit made up by someone with far too much time on his hands.
The story in Half-Life (2) is no deeper than that of Bert & Ernie's adventures in Sesamestreet.

I guess you didnt read any of it, since most of it is backed up with screenshost and quotes

But yeah, i dont agree with him about a big chunk of the plot... He thinks the Gman is a good guy, whereas he's blatently a mercenary hired by the enemy...

HL1's story was quite secksi, although it didnt really come into play till OpFor.
i have a feeling the second one isnt as good story wise though (havent played it), and its supposed to have a rather odd ending, which this thread states once again.

on the other hand, i didnt mind Halo2's ending either so i guess i'll be ok ..

Is Opposing Force worth playing?

The jury is still out on the G-man's allegiance. I'd say he works for a still unknown third party.

very, very much so
it elaborates on the story so well and adds tons of more worms to the can
and seeing the same story from another point of view is always cool (hence back to the future 2 rocks)

It seems that City 17 is the last city on earth, Gordon is probably some kind of time traveller, G-man is using him(no..not sexual).

Half-life 2 is probably the second game in a Trilogigy.

Im hoping Half-life 3 will show us who and how the earth was taken over(a massive battle in the other cities with drivable tanks, planes),where the Combines come from..

Some many questions unanswered.

a defining attribute of a government is that it has a monopoly on the legitimate exercise of violence...

You have to take the CD OUT of the box. Then the fun starts.

HL 3 will no doubt be Earth's reclamation by humans and the expulsion of the Combine.

Shitloads of huge, epic battles with fifty enemies and NPCs on-screen at any time.

No doubt.

[edit] While HL4 will be one big gay porno as G-Man professes his undying love for men with beards. The game will feature loads of bump-maps, volumetric water/jizz effects and a new displacement mapping technology that accurately portrays the destruction of a man's sphincter...in real time.

Yes....I did work on Far Cry.

But you still haven't explained why I'd be bitter about HL3 or 4 or episode 18.

Oh, i meant you sounded bitter because HL2 is so much better than far cry, by all accounts...

At least ya beat Doom3, eh?

edit: Actually, i have no idea, since i have no inclination to play Far Cry...

TBH...I wanted Far Cry to do well...but I had no illusions about it competing with HL2 or Doom3. Everybody knew we had those two behemoths to deal with. Our goal was to beat them out the gate with the next gen tech and gameplay....we accomplished that.

Oh...and way to completely own me on saying HL2 is so much better than Far Cry, by all accounts.......funny how you could say something about a game you've never played.

And for the record I enjoyed Far Cry as much as HL2. The biggest thing I missed in Far Cry after playing HL2 was the ability to pick shit up. I loved carrying a barrel in HL2 to use a portable cover as I ran through an area under heavy fire. I also loved throwing glass bottles at the Combine to piss them off and chase me with their zapper sticks.

Admittedly you can't do that in Far Cry...but I'll live.

I liked Far Cry. Although I do think that HL2 was the "better" game, it also took twice as long to develop, didn't it? So I guess Crytek got a lot of bang for the buck.
