Mass Effect 2
Re: Mass Effect 2
I figured I'd bump this thread since we're talking about it in the Bioshock 2 thread.
This game is flat out awesome. I'm about 35 hours in and have only done 2 or 3 loyalty missions and haven't started the IFF mission. Plus I've got a ton of planets still to probe. I don't understand how you guys finished this game so quickly. I don't feel like I'm playing slow...
Speaking of probing, I was scanning our Sol system last night and when I started scanning Uranus, I could have swore she said "probing Uranus" when I launched the first probe. But because it was late I had the TV turned way down and couldn't hear it very well. And I couldn't get her to say it again. Can anyone confirm this?

Re: Mass Effect 2
When you can choose your characters for the mission, who is in the second slot from the left? Mine is still blank. And I'm afraid that I might have killed he or she off in ME1, so I may never see him in ME2. Can anyone tell me if I might find this person later on?

Re: Mass Effect 2
None of your potential team-mates are ones that could have possibly died in ME1. The second slot is a "Special" character, and I believe the last squad mate it's possible to recruit.
Re: Mass Effect 2
Ok cool, so I just need to be patient...
Re: Mass Effect 2
replaying on hardcore- you're missing out if you played on normal. The combat is intense and has real strategy, it's epic instead of the running all-you-can-rape-buffet that it is on normal.

Re: Mass Effect 2
Yeah, my first playthrough was on Insanity, and going back playing it on Easy really does the combat a disservice. I'm doing it so I can have both a pure Paragon Shepard and a pure Renegade as well as my "Meet somewhere in the middle" Shepard, and I've been tempted several times to turn the difficulty back up, as is loses all of its nuances at lower difficulties.
Re: Mass Effect 2
I've just started again as a female shepard. Feels a a bit wierd having a different Shepard.
Re: Mass Effect 2
Bang garrus and talk to the doctor about it.
Vanguard is hard as fuck on hardcore. The shockwave and charge become useless once you get enemies with armor and shields.
What I've been doing is using squad cryo, inferno ammo (doesn't override squad), and charging guys with the schimitar or the initial SMG, then running like hell. It's pretty ballsy but nothing else works.
Btw, the first SMG (forgot the name) is actually much better than the other one- if you click it, it will fire full auto, and at close range it + melee will take care of almost anything.

What is considered to be pure Paragon and pure Renegade?Mat Linnett wrote:Yeah, my first playthrough was on Insanity, and going back playing it on Easy really does the combat a disservice. he means always choosing blue (paragon) or red (renegade) actions and dialogue.*

I always play with a female Shepard, as Jennifer Hale as a voice actor is an order of magnitude better than the wooden pleb they got to play male Shepard.Pauly wrote:I've just started again as a female shepard. Feels a a bit wierd having a different Shepard.
Re: Mass Effect 2
yeah, because being a dude who plays as a woman whos voice is Cinderella from the movies isn't gay.
Re: Mass Effect 2
i want to play as the male shephard, with the female voice. make it happen, bioware.

Re: Mass Effect 2
If you have the PC version you can change your avatar model to anything you want....including a male Shepard with a female Shepard voice. In ME 1 you could even play the game as Wrex....with a female voice.brisk wrote:i want to play as the male shephard, with the female voice. make it happen, bioware.
The freedom to tweak games the way you like them on a PC is another way of saying console gaming sucks.
Re: Mass Effect 2
I've done all the loyalty missions (still haven't started the IFF mission), but Jack is unloyal, probably due to the fight he and Miranda had and I wanted to put my sausage in Miranda's oven.
How do you get her loyalty back? The paragon and renegade options are greyed out, since I'm kinda in the middle of both.

Re: Mass Effect 2
You need I *THINK* 85% Paragon to get her loyal again by the end, I did the same and lost her loyalty by siding with Miranda but later on I went to talk with her, and I got it back.
Re: Mass Effect 2
That's weird, I never had the option with staypuft-face even though I had 100% paragon. Just bang Kelly instead, or Samara for the best time of your life lol.
I just got to the collector ship a second time- but I couldn't re-pick my bonus weapon. That was like the whole reason I was playing through again. Gay...

Re: Mass Effect 2
Yeah, I thought that was shit too. I made the mistake of picking the sniper rifle for my adept on my first playthrough and ended up barely using it. The assault rifle would have seen a lot more use.
Re: Mass Effect 2
I'm loving the Adept. Best class so far for me.
Re: Mass Effect 2
Maybe I should try and replay with a new class. Only if I can be a man with a woman's voice.

Re: Mass Effect 2
Well, 80 hours later I finally finished this. I depleted all the planets in the galaxy, and ended as a full renegade. Fun game.

Re: Mass Effect 2
That's interesting...I have just the opposite reaction. The female actor sounds like she was on Valium during the entire recording session. Either way, the voice acting and script work for all the NPCs are vastly superior to Shepard's chit-chat. I'm just finishing my first playthrough with a fem shep and I certainly won't do so again. Since I just can't get myself to romance a dude, the game's a lot less interesting as a chick.Mat Linnett wrote: I always play with a female Shepard, as Jennifer Hale as a voice actor is an order of magnitude better than the wooden pleb they got to play male Shepard.
