Metal Gear Solid 4
fuck that fucking piece of shit game.
Yeah, at first I was like "Oh sweet, MGS 1 kicked ass, MGS 2 sucked, MGS 3 was ok, maybe this one will make up for 2 and 3"
Not the fucking case.
Ok first of all it starts off in the middle east. Have people not seen enough of that shit in the past few years?
Second of all, what the fuck is the point of a save system that doesn't save where you tell it to? I thought the gun market system was going to be great fun. Went and bought all the parts to the M4 and AK47 as well as three different sniper rifles, and a shotgun - the result of resetting a spawn point for enemies in a hallway and killing them for about an hour or more.
Once I was finished with the enemy grinding I thought "cool lets go kick some ass" *save*
Off I go to infiltrate yet another "base" when I found an item... dunno what the item was. The description/name flashed for a fraction of a second. WTF? I had to know what this was... otherwise, how the fuck am I supposed to know what it's for and when to use it? So, I load my last saved game...............
All of my weapons are gone. All of my customizations are gone. And I'm quite a fuckin hike away from where I had been (two fucking cutscenes away + some)
What a giant steaming load of horse shit.
I'm giving this thing one last chance... I mean, it's Metal Gear Solid. But so far I'm regretting every penny and second put in to it and I'm about to toss the goddamn game in the trash.
Did any of you people actually enjoy MGS4 or did you hate yourselves a little more for completing it?

Re: Metal Gear Solid 4
The only good Metal Gear game was Metal Gear Solid 1.

Re: Metal Gear Solid 4
MGS4 was incredible as an art medium, I ignored most of its gameplay elements tbh. Enjoyed it tremendously

kojima needs a good editor.
Re: Metal Gear Solid 4
I thought Sons of Liberty was good. Once I got over having to play a blonde panzy...
Re: Metal Gear Solid 4
MGS 3 was the best of them all because you don't need to play any of the other games
I love quake!

Re: Metal Gear Solid 4
MGS 1 felt more right to me. MGS 3 was ok but I didn't dig the camo system or the food hunting.
I couldn't take any MGS 3 bosses seriously. Not after epic fights like Sniper Wolf and Psycho Mantis.
I enjoyed the environment and design direction a hell of a lot more in MGS 3 than 2 though so I'm not trying to dismiss it as a bad game. It just didn't feel right in most aspects to me.
I'm going to give MGS 4 another try tonight... I just want to see the rest of the cutscenes :P

Re: Metal Gear Solid 4
And spent the past couple days playing this through to the end.
Hot damn that was a fitting wrap on all the previous MGS games. And the beauty versions of the beasts were sexy
Shadow Moses brought back all kinds of memories and I was pleased to see that they kept the hand-cramping 5 minute button-smashing sequence in. I was almost disappointed with the lack of a torture scene where I had to tap O repeatedly but this game delivers.
Nice callbacks to Psycho Mantis and Sniper Wolf which really pleased me. The Crying Wolf battle kind of irritated me though because I couldn't just have a sniping battle. I had to deal with her goddamn minions patroling the area as well.
It's weird because it seemed like the phone would only ring in the middle of a cutscene. I could be wandering for hours doing nothing in particular and as soon as a cutscene got good *ring ring* Weird...
Sunny's up there with Raiden in my least favorite characters in MGS. Raiden sort of redeems his pansy ass in MGS4 but he's still pretty fruity and would have raged if I had to play a single act as him. I'm glad I was able to play Snake the entire time.
If you guys still haven't played this, and are planning on it, connect online to download the camoflauges and music. Haven Camo saved my bacon more than once (99% camo index when still) and the music just sets the mood (Zone of the Enders soundtrack on boss fights? Hell yes)
In short, I'm pleased I didn't coaster this bastard. Going to play through again on the hardest difficulty and go for no alerts/kills and game completion in under 5 hours for full unlocks. This is going to piss me off to no end.

Man, I never finished 3 and forgot about it. I wonder how dusty my PS2 is.

Well damn. Apparently I missed the Frog Doll at the beginning of the game because I didn't end up with the Solar Gun =\
Going to have to breeze through again on either normal or easy to get the dolls and unlock the gun for a Boss Extreme run.

fucking fuck cunt bitchass motherfucking shit killed the first boss after getting the frog doll and went on to continue on to the second and forgot to grab the goddamn octopus doll.
Fucking threw the controller at the ps3 because that solves everything and promptly came to rant about it on q3w.

Reminds me of the time when I was on the final boss of Final Fantasy 7 and accidently erased the save file. I was pissed for a week.

I almost agree with you completely on that. MGS4 was a solid and appropriate addition to the series though. MGS2 and 3 were trash imo though.Memphis wrote:qfftTransient wrote:The only good Metal Gear game was Metal Gear Solid 1.
MGS1 is more true to the actual Metal Gear games before it. It's a stealth mission not a rambo one-man army type of game like 4 was. There was no emphasis on stealth in MGS4 and instead you can just pick up a machine gun and run around mowing down enemies (dozens at a time) and come out with some slight scratches.
Also, the shift of focus off of the actual Metal Gear machines and on to nanomachine crap was kind of a let down. I don't want to save the world from mind-controlling nanomachines. I want to single handedly take down a nuclear-armed tank on legs.
And it was a bit saddening to see Snake as such an old fart while the other characters are still young.
But questions were answered. Unfinished business was taken care of. This game makes me complete. It's a great game. MGS1 just has more space in my heart.
