Q3A Demo master server issue...

Post by SkottyMcFly »

Not sure if I posted this in the right forum, figured here was good though.

Anyways, I recently got the Q3A demo, and me and my friends on vent are having issues contacting the master server randomly.
It'll be working one minute, with the servers showing and all... then the next minutes it says "No Response From Master Server".
It's beginning to get frustrating. But I noticed that I added a server to my favorites while I COULD access the master server, and when it went back down it was still available in my favorites.

Anyone know our problem?

ASE doesn't exist anymore does it?

And remember, I have the demo.
The servers on qtracker don't work because of that, I guess. I tried qtrack before I posted this. It wouldn't let me join because of the "Server uses protocol XX". And you can't update demo can you?

Nope, but I think Qtracker has an option to filter out non-demo servers. If all else fails, you could create the filter yourself (the demo uses protocol 47, IIRC).

Buy the game. I only paid $10 for Q1,2 & 3. Everything else is gravy. :D

Well, that wouldn't be a problem, but a lot of my friends don't want to buy it, they just want to play it every now and then with me.
So, the demo is the main option.
Unless we were to torrent it, but I'm not sure how well that would work, or if there would be some sort of problems like cd key invalid errors lol.
But I assume pirating isn't to be discussed on this forum anyway.

I choose to believe you mean 'buying the game' with that.

quakelive.com

Completely free to play. Also the old original Q3 plus TA can be purchased on Steam for the dizzying sum of twenty bucks.

Ain't much of an excuse, really.

Try this: http://www.qxmon.net/q3mon-browser.pl

Protocol: 43

Sort by: mod

Show: empty+full

Scroll to bottom. Those with no mod type are potential demo servers (it can probably be modded, but I'll assume not). From among those, the ones running q3dm1/q3dm7/q3dm17/q3tourney2 are potential demo servers (it can probably be made to run other maps, but I'll assume not). Hover over the server names and look for v1.11. Some are even nice enough to put "demo" in the name. Once you narrow them down, check them for pings to you and your friends (\ping then CTRL+V the IP:PORT in the console).

(If you know something I don't know about demo mods/maps, then any of those servers should also be somewhere on that list.)

EDIT: Here are the results I just got using the above criteria:

212.80.82.1:29000 (Czech Republic)
58.188.125.49:27960 (Japan)
85.25.149.184:27960 (Germany)
85.25.149.184:27961 (Germany)
86.104.120.205:27960 (Romania)
190.163.199.42:27960 (Chile)

Slim pickings. Choose the one nearest to you. :olo:
