Re: Lost
Richard's story was epic, and confirmed a lot of my personal theories, so absolutely estatic about this episode. To be honest, other than deeper questions about MIB and Jacobs past and how THEY came to the island, the entire backstory is now complete in my opinion, which leaves the last half of the season open for just dealing with what's happening next.
Anyone else thinks it's gonna be a bit obvious, but shit if otherwise, that Jack will be the chosen candidate? If one is chosen, they could just end up getting all the candidates together to banish MIB once and for all? Either way, epic stuff to come!

Re: Lost
I like to refer to him as Smokey. I'm thinking the island may be Eden. I also think Smokey and Jacob are holding the balance between heaven and hell on earth and as such there should always be one of each. Hell obviously seeks to overthrow the balance but heaven is content with balance.
Re: Lost
i dont fully agree, but i do feel the whole story couldve been two seasons shorter (the whole hiatus off the island really didnt add anything at all) and i feel they are abandoning the whole dharma thing. which would kinda made season 2 (my fav season) pointless . :/
we'll know in a couple of weeks

given that they couldn't have known if lost would be commissioned again after season 1, there's no way they could have planned a 6-season story arc; on the other hand when it was clear the show had a huge following they could start planning ahead with some confidence
the the outstanding plot 'issue' for me is the dharma initiative. wtf was that all about anyway? now that it turns out everyone was brought to the island by jacob, why did they spend several seasons pissing around with the hatch, typing in the numbers etc? what's that got to do with jacob, other than the tangential connection via benjamin linus?

Oh FFS...you fagg0ts are repeating almost verbatim what I said a few years ago about this show when you were all making fun of me for saying what you're saying now.
Cunts.
It's quite obvious that I'm a genius and say things long before they become popular to say.

Re: Lost
Loved that last episode, the bit with Richard, his wife and Hurley was really touching and a classic example of this show done right. Not long to wait now until the entire thing is solved. (Well, not likely but a majority of it anyway).
Re: Lost
the lighthouse and the cave all have shown their last names with what we call 'the numbers'.
there were many more (rousseau for instance) with different numbers but they all got crossed out.
cuz they dead lolol

Hmmm I see, I hadn't noticed that during that episode.... I'm also curious about UV map that they had found in the hatch... They showed this map with other locations on it and a bunch of odd writings but never really delved into it... It still doesn't quite explain the whole pushing the button bit either.

Re: Lost
I remember distinctly hearing at the end of season 1 that the show was going to be EXACTLY 6 seasons long. What I also heard at the time was that a season would always consist of 23-24 episodes, which obviously didn't hold true since the writers guild strike in season 4.
Wikipedia, which is obviously always right about everything, has a quote stating:

This "bible" was created before the pilot of season 1 aired, but I DISTINCTLY remember watching the final episode of season 1 going on the net to find out when the new season was to begin, and reading an article about the show being planned for exactly six seasons, 23-24 episodes per season. I also remember thinking "fuck me, this crackhead show aint gonna finish till 2010? holy shit that's ages away, I wanna know WTF IS GOING ON NOOOOOWW!"Together, Abrams and Lindelof also created a series "bible", and conceived and detailed the major mythological ideas and plot points for an ideal four to five season run for the show.

Re: Lost
Oh, and yes, you may think that two major seasons (the returning to cilvilsation and the time travel / dharma seasons) were completely pointless in the current story arc, but I think they were VITAL as a story telling mechanism, and however outlandish the ideas are (I mean, time travel... wtf, that's pushing it), they did serve their roles as story telling mechanisms within the distinct format of the show perfectly, and if they're "technically" explained within the show for being feasible for whatever the island actually is or is not, then hey.. who are we to complain?

Re: Lost
Questions unanswered in relation to incomplete backstories:
- Who is Jacob, how did he arrive at this island?
- Who is MIB, how did he arrive at this island? How did he lose his body? Did he really have a crazy mother?
- Adam & Eve corpses (Hinted to by the writers in a recent episode, so answer expected!)
- How did Jacob's numbers for the lost candidates end up being broadcast on the radio tower before Danielle replaced the broadcast?
- How did Dogen prevent Smokie from enter the temple up until his death?
- What "worked" in ref. to Juliet's last words?
- What the hell happened to Rose and Bernard?
- The whole damn Walt thing... wtf?

Re: Lost
the 6 seasons thing is a bit off.
after season 2 or so, they were in talks of ending the show. they didnt want it to go the xfiles way and only have it end when the ratings dropped; they wanted to have an actual ending.
the network obviously wanted to milk this as long as possible and the end result was one extra season.
the writer's strike didnt quite help either.. somewhere in season 3 or 4 there are some obvious filler eps :/

still looking for the exact statementLindelof: It feels to me like we're about half way there now, to the end of the show. You guys have seen about 50 episodes.
Re: Lost
I agree. At the very least she meant that the bomb worked because thats what she said directly afterwards. I don't think she could have known the plan itself would have worked to restore the timeline from her vantage point so she was assuming (as I would) that since a nuke went off in her face and she didn't die the plan must have worked.Memphis wrote:Turbanator wrote: [*] How did Jacob's numbers for the lost candidates end up being broadcast on the radio tower before Danielle replaced the broadcast?

What worked was returning to their own time. I think
I also agree with her that it worked. Those alternate timelines we've been seeing is their past reworking itself in respect to the fact that there isn't an island anymore. The reason everyone didn't vaporize or transition their consciousness back to the other timeline is because by time travelling they now exist on a different timeline and don't actually have any ties to the other reality. They are neither in the past/present/future in relation to that new timeline.
