CliffyB is such a wanker.

I don't need to be hyped for Gears 3. I already know what Gears is about and I will buy gow3 regardless of hype.

They better keep Horde in there though!

^ that.
gow2 was a massive improvement over the first, and a fun game. its not "omg teh bestest gaem evar" tho, but it doesnt have to be.

i'll get 3 cause i enjoyed the other two.
desaturated trailers wont change anything.

The GOW games are totally overated. I couldn't even finish either of them as I was bored shitless before the end. Same crap from start to end.

Very much like the Halo games in that respect.

Epic are talented engine programmers, but their games are dire.

I'm with you on this brisk.
I found GoW 1 thoroughly underwhelming, and incredibly repetitive.

You know what's really fucking stupid?
The amount of people I've seen that call Gears of War a first person shooter.

This past decade...? If you count Quake 3 (Which, lets be honest, is pushing it as it was xmas 09 wasn't it?) id software have released... One game. Quake 4, ET:QW, New Wolf etc, none of those are inhouse id software games.

Which is pretty sad when you think about it. Glad they have expanded a lot recently, but even then the time Rage is taking to come out is insane.

Theres nothing wrong with Gears, both games do exactly what they say on the tin. Anybody buying them and expecting a shakespearean story is a complete twat.

I still wish Epic would just make Unreal 2... (No not THAT Unreal 2, I mean a decent sequel to the first game).

The story in both games was meh, but the gameplay had me playing through the campaign multiple times. I thoroughly enjoyed both games.

I never did finish GoW. I think I made it up to the final boss and just stopped playing.

Overall, I found it a bit 'meh'. Essentially it was about camping a spot behind a big rock and shooting anything that comes near you. If you get hurt, just keep hiding behind that rock. Not much incentive in any firefight to move from that trusty old rock, it's a bit like a localized god mode.

You're all missing the fact that Gears of War has co-op [on the PC no less], which pushes it from simply being a meh shooter to something really quite special

It's like that in virtually every shooter game nowadays, Modern Warfare 2, Wolfenstein to name two recent ones.

Mass Effect 2 also has this. They went ahead and "improved" their shooting gameplay by focusing the ENTIRE shooting aspect on the cover-to-cover gameplay mechanic. It's a good thing that game has various powers such as lift or it'd be fucking tedious.

It seems the games industry is chock full of narrowminded games designers who bow to marketing teams to implement EXACTLY what "Popular Game X" has....even if - at its core - it's a shit gameplay mechanic. Gears Of War made everyone utilize cover to cover while GTA III made everyone utilize their shit 360 degree camera movement.
