and put readmes in a \readmes\mapname_readme.txt pleaasse.....

what i do is put a secondary folder within the primary one

env/env/(i tend to move these into the textures folder and repath the scripts)
scripts/scripts/mapname.script and mapname.arena
maps/maps/mapname.map mapname.bsp and mapname.aas
textures/textures/mapname/textures...jpg and tga
etc..

and then paste the current files into it, drag and drop into the zip

i keep all the files in folders within the mains though :D

im for the idea of a contest naming convention though for differentiation of these maps within the folder system for those of us who extract the pk3's also id like to see the .map file included for all maps.

make it rule that the map must be tested on a fresh install of quake 3, before being submitted.

mappers who don't test their map on a fresh install of q3, need to be shot.

the person should be disqualified, and their map should be DELETED, if they forget this rule and missing a texture.

---

one thing that bothered me from last contest, is the sheer amount of sh!t that was submitted. by sh!t, i mean, maps with missing textures.

hey i wonder, i know therss a point in time the contest begins to be fair, well i might not be able to map then and the map im currently working on i will complete relatively soon.. so it won't have given me any advantage of time having started sooner or later. i can finalize the map and submit it.. start and finish dates listed.

would you ask them if that would be acceptable?

Also remember: These maps are intended for use on Point Release 1.16n. Test them on that point release otherwise they will not be valid for entry.

We had some problems with this last year (some maps were 1.30 or 1.32 only).

I think that 1.16 rule is bogus... I mean, it kinda excludes a lot of mappers since 1.16 clearly has missing features.

And it also feels like such a community bound rule, but the contest is announced as a global for every one contest, not as a 1.16n version contest.

You can do all the basic things, but there's an extended patch cap I think it was, there's also the possibility to tag item spawning better in the latest version, the old system is just stupid.

Well, I just think it's stupid rule...
But AFAIK, there's no such rule in contest2...

I think there are some shader compatibility issues too, which from the point of view of what I've been planning will cause me problems.
If that is a current rule, it needs removing.

I agree, it's not a rule of choice, but the players who will be playing will be primarily of the NoGhost mod (which is 1.16).

Then the contest should be announced as that, don't you think?
Hmm...
It's a bit complicated, cause I'm sure this was a contest that spawned from the noGhost community, but now it's much more than that. Most level designers who enters this contest, can't be found on noGhosts forums, right?

Yes, but the person who is setting the contest up and acquiring the prizes calls the shots. If Maverick would broaden that particular rule it would attract many more mappers (and better maps). But his agenda is to make his mod more playable by having more maps made to cater to the restrictions of 1.16 so that he may benefit and make some money as well.

[09:31] <@Maverick|MSG> regardless, the rule to require the map to be compatible with 1.16n is dropped, mainly because
[09:31] <@Maverick|MSG> 1) I feel it unnecessarily complicates the competition, particularly to the point that it hinders development and new ideas
[09:32] <@Maverick|MSG> 2) 1.16n, as much as I love it and the population who play it, is an old version and the competition's goal is for new and exciting map creation. catering to old technology is counter-productive to that target.

Lovely. That makes this whole situation better. :) That was my least favorite rule because I felt that some mappers were restrained from doing their best. I'm happy to see that it's overturned.

Thanks for inquiring, guys.

i'd like to see a competition of the effects type. :D im in on this one btw. :D ty for hot comps to enter.

a comp for making like animated level prefabs would be neat.. been looking at this tidal wave move(6th or 7th move in the movie) in wizard101 lately thinking I can almost ream ache it in q3... a remake might involve some ream ache.. but it'd doable.. imagine walking up to the edge of the water and triggering a little player size tidal wave.. with wind and splash sound effects for when it crashes down carrying a damage trigger.. a shader train!

@Hipshot

Unfortunately, the prizes from Autodesk are only for participants who live in North America because of license issues - Maverick said there was no way to get around that.

Edit:

@ skinNCNmaster, I replied to your post at the competition forums :)

Btw: Is there any short form of your nick you feel comfortable with? :toothy:
