If I had to choose between them, I'd go for the A5.

I'm getting a new car myself in the next couple of months. A Porsche Cayman; just waiting for one to come around at the price I want.

Mmmmm, I'd hit a Cayman but they seem overpriced compared to what you get with the new M3.

I think it depends what you're looking for. I just want a car that's relatively practical, very fun to drive, and has a bit of prestige. Porsche don't really do a bargain car, even the Boxster is a fantasy car for most incomes. You get a Porsche and you belong to a club.

I'm still 18 at heart, and I've never coveted a BMW; I knew they were good, but they just don't have the Porsche prestige.

Oh, another thing about Porsche's is they seem to be relatively well looked after right across the board.

Don't mind him, he doesn't like you because you can afford to buy/like a Porsche.

Yeah, I figured it was either that or he was just your average fucking idiot.

Hey, have you ever thought of getting a cheaper/older model of one of those cars in the list for your wife and yourself as a daily driver, and then buying a little sports car for a weekend/fun car?

Could be worth thinking about.

I've thought about buying a classic corvette for a weekend toy. But then I realised that I wouldn't ever have time to enjoy it. Right now "new" is most important for our every day ride because of the warranty. There aren't too many thing that I would hate more than having to come home from work and fix the wife's car so she can get to work the next day. Right now I'm all about the AAA roadside assistance.

I'm going to echo Jugg's sentiments on this one.

Practical? A Cayman?
And prestige? I would call Porsche "respected", but not prestigious. Not more so than any other German luxury brand. Keep in mind that Porsche currently produce that hideously aborted cow that's popular with suburban moms. Lots of pure-blood integrity there...

It sounds like you're trying to rationalize buying a Porsche. Why do you need to? A Cayman is a perfectly acceptable sports car. Buy it because you want it. Don't pretend that it's the most practical or prestigious car for you. Hell, if prestige is important, why not just spring for a 911? That's got more badge associated with it than the Cayman.
If you're not careful you'll "rationalize" yourself into buying a Hummer.

And I believe Juggs used to drive an M3. I don't think I'd categorize him as poor or an idiot.

You might want to look at certified used cars. If you're lucky you might be able to find an A5 or 328 that's only a couple months old. If the dealer certifies it, you can get a nearly new car with all the factory warranty plus the extended pre-owned warranty, all for cheaper than a new car.

Wow. Such anger.

If you don't care about anyone's opinion, why are you on an internet forum telling us what you're going to buy? Perhaps you only care if we all tell you how you're our hero because you're getting a Cayman.

You're not.
It's a great car. I hope you enjoy it. Just don't expect it to magically make you everyone's idol (just ask lars63 about the girls laughing at him in his 911).

EDIT: :olo: nice ninja edit. I guess we came to the came conclusion. <3

Hey, Werldhed, no anger man, I just called you an idiot, let's not get carried away here. I edited because I don't want to get caught up in petty internet squabbles with complete strangers. I did so before you posted your reply.

No shade.
