New 360
Re: New 360
To be fair DB is right... I use my PS3 as my media point for the TV, evn though my 360 can do it, simply because of the noise... My 360 has this odd "hum" even without a disk spinning...
Re: New 360
It seems like a good idea but it does remove your ability to take your 360 to a friend's without taking the whole thing. One of my buddies will take his to other people's houses because he has his netflix subscription attached to it.MKJ wrote:why is internalizing the hdd a good thing?
i mean its not like the 'external' drive needs 12 cables or whatever, you just snap it on.
the only thing that makes it external is the lack of housing.
Re: New 360
Seems they have done away with the 2 fans in the back, and placed a large fan directly above the CPU/GPU area.
I don't see Memory Card slots either.

Usb keys can be used as memory slots...
here is the shot of the murmered prototype mobo for it:

TBH, after seeing the new Nintendo 3DS model, I can honestly say the 360 Slim isn't the ugliest hardware at E3 lol...

Re: New 360
hah,
yeah...
i just someone would rip theirs open already and see if they can confirm that IS the mobo.
And if they've finally combined the Cpu and GPU in one chip,
if so, that would basically eliminate the current RROD errors the consoles would get due to the build in Hyper-bus in the chip rather then across the PCB.

Re: New 360
Right. I have a WD Passport that I keep plugged in and use for movies and music. I partitioned a little space on it to use for game saves mostly as a back up. It's just that they have gone and make the memory cards totally obsolete now. Makes the firmware update that they did a while back to stop the use of the Datel Memory Cards seem silly now that you can use just about any flash drive or ext. hard drive. Also, those Xbox branded thumb drives are ridiculously over priced.AmIdYfReAk wrote:Usb keys can be used as memory slots...
Re: New 360
adding flash drive support to 360 was a bad idea

i think it was a good idea,
There are ~8 hacks that rely on it currently.

Re: New 360
Nah, means I can trade up now. Had the same 20gig HDD since launch because I cant be arsed to use that cable thing... Having USB save games means I can just back those up. Win.
Re: New 360
think i'll be getting one so i don't have to play media through the horrid ps3 UI
Re: New 360
you can still remove the HDD on this new model.EtUL wrote:It seems like a good idea but it does remove your ability to take your 360 to a friend's without taking the whole thing. also, isnt Netflix tied to Gamertag like all the other DRMs?

exactly, plus its easy for anyone with a usb drive to hack save files now as seen by the number of 4x prestige lvl50 RDR player online 2 days after release.
Re: New 360
This is confirmed. I saw it printed somewhere, I can't find it now.AmIdYfReAk wrote:And if they've finally combined the Cpu and GPU in one chip
Really? I thought the RROD was due to either the CPU or GPU overheating and becoming unseated, or something.AmIdYfReAk wrote:if so, that would basically eliminate the current RROD errors the consoles would get due to the build in Hyper-bus in the chip rather then across the PCB.
This part actually worried me. I see the benefits, but having all of the heat generated in one spot sounds potentially dangerous.

Re: New 360
that's his point. the heats spread across the mobo making it lift and rest when powered down. with only one heat point that won't happen.

Re: New 360
not overheating ( in most cases ), but just designed heat cycles on the console causing the solder to crack and sever the connection to the hyper-bus.
Thats why the "x-clamp" and overheating it gets it back 90% of the time, so be it for a short while.
i was actually referring to hacking the CONSOLE, or operating system, not saved games.

Thats been going on since day one of consoles, its nothing new.shaft wrote:AmIdYfReAk wrote: There are ~8 hacks that rely on it currently.

Re: New 360
supporting usb drives does lower the barrier for savegame hacking tho
good thing MS checks gamerscore from time to time ey

i'm just happy that there are people more talented then i am working to a goal that i'd like to see...
using the 360 as a PC, blowing it wide open like the first one.
And that is getting closer and closer.

It does look like the Elites aborted twin. But stands out sweeter looking like an Alienware instead of a dusty old Dell.
Anyhoo, I was amazed how good the 3D technology is on the new DS. Sold!!!
