I can finaly say I love my job.

Post by Κracus »

I know it's lame and I never thought I'd say this but I actualy really love this job. It's freaking awsome. I feel really bad for people that have shit jobs and I've done my share of shit jobs so if you've got one then let me be the person to tell you to go look for another job until you find one you like.

Right now I do remote desktop support, kindof an entry level administrator job where I solve a wide range of PC and PDA related issues. However I have awsome tools that I use to do this where I just take over the persons PC or PDA and work from inside rather than try to explain to an end user what to do.

This place is filled with IT jobs that anyone in IT would dream about. From my job there's a huge demand for Exchange Administrators to Server Engineers and anything you can think of and my work will pay for all the training provided I pass. (MCDST included, the basic starting point)

It's really awsome and knowing where I came from this is a pretty big deal for me. I haven't been doing buisness in clubs for years! :p

I kind of did bullshit my way into the job since I had no real certifications but I did it by studying like fucking mad and I was so worried that once in my position I'd fall flat on my face cause I didn't have all the training but I was actualy best in class. :)

I've even been approached in the future to travel to locations where french is the primary language to setup exchange servers and infrastructure. :D

Hope you guys have the same luck I did! Except for Geoff and Jackal, Geoff, you keep washing them dishes and Jackal, well you got all them pieces of paper so I'm sure you're alright. :p

sounds horrible :|,

edit: but each to their own, as long as it's making you happy . My career's starting to kick off now, if things go to plan i'll be making props for this in a month or so: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1298650/ it'll only be on a junior level, but it's a massive foot in the door. Really i want to be doing animatronics and this is probably the best way to get to know people in the business.

Yeah I can see it not being everyones cup of tea but fixing stuff is something that I've been doing since I was a kid. I dunno what it is about being presented with a problem and solving it that gives me satisfaction but it does. It's fairly technical stuff too not your average tech support everything is cloud based which is interesting.

You are either part of the solution or part of the problem.

These 2 guys are obviously part of the problem.

Heh, it should be 'i quite like' - didn't quit anything, forgot a word there :) Have been unemployed for three months and only half employed for another three (working in a bar 2 nights a week and some profoundly stupid administrative stuff for another day), mostly living off the money i saved up from my previous overpaid job as a PA.

Now working for a three man company, we're building an app for the iphone - i'm the dude who takes care of all the paperwork stuff. They even listen to some of my crazy ideas about the app :D

Maybe it will fail like most startups (must say i'm personally pretty sold on the idea tho), but it's certainly interesting times. I love working for small companies, everything you do makes a difference.

Yeesh, sounds fucking horrid to me, but to each their own. Finding something you love to do and getting paid for it is an epic win, so more power to you.

Yeah bit of a bone of contention that one. Same with 'Network Engineer'. Still what you gonna do. 'Architect' is even worse.

I love my job too - at the end of this year i had a student leave a note on my desk telling me how the big bang has to be impossible due to the law of angular momentum and also asking why, if we are evolving, humans haven't changed in the 2000 years that we've been here (that's really 'young earth'). It wraps up by telling me that all this points to Jesus and that I have 2 choices - accept him or face him at my death and spend eternity in hell.

So yea, its good to see that the education I give them is really sinking in.

On a positive note, I did have several students tell me that my class has completely changed their perspective on the universe, nature, and their place in it - so that its always good.
