Re: new VLC is GPU accelerated
At first I was intrigued, but then decided to see how much the old one taxes my system. Using my highest quality movie, I average about 10% CPU usage. I realize this is probably more of a big deal for media players, but my CPU is like 3 years old, nowhere near top of the line.
On the other hand, youtube videos in 720p average over 50% CPU usage. I heard there's a new version of Flash that uses GPU acceleration too, yeah?

All i have to say is... FINALLY!
i was complaining about this with the G-force 1's and DiVX/etc didn't take advantage of all of the power sitting there in the card.
Thanks for the post sommeh

All I have to say is I don't see how this improves 2d playback?
I'm able to play 1080p video flawlessly, and apparently my 3 year old cpu is quite up to the task, and never whines about how the GPU should step in and do its bit.
I love VLC, it's my go to video player, but it's really perfect as is.

Your GPU has a bitch-ass pipeline for decoding, interpolating, smoothing and stretching video. Much more so than your CPU.
