vehicle Recommendations?

Post by Giraffe }{unter »

anyone have a crossover or suv worth looking into I need to get a new vehicle in a few months when my Lexus IS lease is up. I need a bigger car for all my Home Depot trips but no Mini Vans and I'm not a big fan of the Lexus RX series.

I'm really looking for a 07 or 08 Dodge Magnum R/T AWD, but if I fail I will need to lease a new car.

The following cars are on the test drive list anyone have a one to add?

Toyota Venza

Hyundai Tucson

Honda Crosstour

If you want the extra room for Home Depot trips, you can always just get something with a hitch and buy a trailer. That would give you a lot more options in choosing a vehicle. You can install a trailer hitch on a lot of things these days, even if it doesn't come with one.

You can test the Venza, but it's way over-priced.
That Honda is more of a hatchback than a crossover. I don't know that it will haul much.

What's your size limit? Is the Ford Flex too big?

Anyway, this should be first on your list:
Subaru Outback. Get a used one if you don't like the size/looks of the new ones.

If you just want a wagon (e.g. Magnum), Consider these:
Volvo XC70

Audi A4 Avant - This is what I have, and it kicks ass.

I'd recommend the Toyota Red-Slashy-Circle. I've seen a ton of people around here getting the Crosstour and it looks pretty sexy in person. Seems to be priced well too.

I definitely get where you're coming from on wanting something more practical. My payments on the Z are up soon and I'm so tired of dealing with 2-seat sports cars with no trunk space that are suicide missions in the winter. That said I'll probably give in and buy another one anyways...I was thinking a 4-door AWD car would be a good compromise. But I have been looking at the GMC Terrain a little and it seems pretty solid for the price. I like the design:

I prefer the space inside the vehicle, extra room for passengers and gear we cart around with the baby as well. I admit a trailer is good for carting 4x8 sheets of wood and drywall, but my local place delivers to me for free now after my last order <3 .

I love the Flex, but for the trim package I want I think it's just too over priced. I'm still going to take it for a test drive and see what lease options I can get, but I've come to the understanding that I'd rather dump the money into my house than my car. The Venza is on the table because my Lexus lease is through Toyota leasing so I can terminate at anytime and get a nice reduction on the Venza.

The Audi is hot, but if I were going with a Wagon, the only one I have eyes for is the Magnum.

Not enough damage to the rear panel of the school bus?

Doombrain, I am starting to look at the Vdubs myself,

and Giraffe }{unter, I prefer the smaller of the range at this time and did think the Hummer was the one but^^

The verdict is still out (watches topic)

The one I posted ranges from 32 to 24. Pretty average numbers for cars available in NA.

Take a look at the Mercedes GLK, the performance and handling will surprise you and it's a lot of fun to drive.

I went looking today (still 1 month early) and leased a new car because the dealer dropped an unbeatable offer and cut me a check for my last payment on the Lexus. I picked up the Honda Crosstour EX-L AWD. It's faster and roomier than my Lexus IS with more features, luxury items and gadgets to play with all for much MUCH less money out of pocket.

That is certainly a nice set of wheels Giraffe }{unter

You did get the silver colour?

Coincidentally I too got some new silver wheels :D Took delivery just yesterday... Spent the afternoon RTFM :olo:

It has nice leather upholstery and those new fancy xenon headlights :smirk:

Simply drool when I approach the car now....

It is the A200 7 speed auto variant. I wanted the turbo version but sadly they are rare and only comes in a 3 door option as I understand.

You may have seen my topic on paint protection? The one other thing is I am still considering add on (after market) window tinting?

Your thoughts appreciated,...

I desperately need a new car myself, and this is going to be my new car (at least I really hope so!) :) Too bad I have to wait another year for it :tear:

I saw one of these for the first time yesterday. They look like solid little tanks driving around. I was impressed. Much nicer then the Envoy.

Any interest in this? I just bought a 2007 myself and I thoroughly enjoy it. But I saw the commercial for the new one the other day and was quite impressed.

Yup Silver, it's one of the few colors I don't need to wash often. I also spent some serious time reading the manual, and then had the car give me a tutorial on all the gadgets in her sexy voice.

I've never seen that car before, I'm guessing it's a European creation, I would absolutely tint the windows in the rear and if allowed do the front as well. Local laws prevent me from tinting my fronts. As for paint protection I had great luck when I used Rejex some airplane grade Teflon stuff, It kept my Z nice and shiny and bugs and other stuff just came right off. I don't believe in the stick on coating that claim to be almost invisible, unless you drive behind a gravel truck every day, just let the minor chips happen. They look better than a clear plastic sticker on your hood.

RE: Paint protection? Yes, thanks for the tip... Rejex. I'll research same :D

All of the SUV/truck designs I've seen over the last ten or so years have been trending more and more towards the boxy plastic-y pile of shit look. Well, at least GMs have. Fucking heinous garbage, but at least they stopped making the Pontiac Aztek.

lol, here's the "Rally" version:

I checked the leftover bottle here is a product link http://www.corrosionx.com/rejexmain.html

This stuff would leave my car with a smooth to the touch almost greasy feel, but was not greasy or wet at all and resisted fingerprints very well. Bird crap and bugs would come right off with 1 spray of Meguiars' spray wax.

:olo: the Aztec Rally looks just like the Aztec Heisenberg will be pleased :tu:
