The last movie you saw
Re: The last movie you saw
the surpise ending couldve been derived from reading the back of the dvd case.GONNAFISTYA wrote:Shutter Island = 6.5/10 - Decent I guess but the editing throughout the film (with the weird cuts and discontinuity between shots) indicated that things were not as they seem and - for me - gave way too many hints that a "twist" was forthcoming.
however i felt the way to movie was edited to be pretty cool, really conveyed the insanity of it all.
but why, WHY do mystery movies like this insist to explain every little fucking detail in one seemingly endless scene? are moviegoers really so slow, or just lazy?

Re: The last movie you saw
Ah, I recently watched Vanilla Sky for the very first time. I had the same feeling. It was a great movie, until the end, where the whole plot was literally explained to Mr Cruise. It totally wrecked what should have been the climax of the movie.MKJ wrote:but why, WHY do mystery movies like this insist to explain every little fucking detail in one seemingly endless scene? are moviegoers really so slow, or just lazy?
Re: The last movie you saw
has anyone watched Avatar again and thought what a fucking great film?

Watched about half of Red Cliff. 3/10 - Now normally I love these grand Chinese epics, but this one had a couple things going against it. It was dubbed with western actor's voices, and it was very poorly done. They tried to closely match the mouth movements of the actors, and that just made the dialog sound artificially stilted and halting. Also, the pace was slow and jerky.
Sets and cinematography were beautiful, the CGI wasn't too bad, and the fight choreography was the usual Chinese, over the top nutty goodness. It just couldn't hold my interest.

Re: The last movie you saw
I agree with you usually but with this movie I thought it played out okay. I still wasn't convinced the end was true throughout them explaining 2/3rds of it.MKJ wrote:but why, WHY do mystery movies like this insist to explain every little fucking detail in one seemingly endless scene? are moviegoers really so slow, or just lazy?

Yes. Because it is.Doombrain wrote:has anyone watched Avatar again and thought what a fucking great film?
Re: The last movie you saw
I saw it twice in theaters (Real D 3D & IMAX), but haven't seen it since then. I just can't imagine it being nearly as good in my living room...

Grave of the Fireflies = 10/10
So haunting, so depressing. Only found out about it recently, but I'm blown away. Also, it's apparently based on a book written by the Seita character who actually survived the ordeal IRL. He wrote the book to deal with his grief and feelings of guilt as he felt responsible for his sister's death. Highly recommended.
The Hurt Locker = 4/10
I don't get what the big deal was? The lead character was a massive tool. Generation Kill seemed a far better portrayal, this was too Hollywood-ized.

Grave of the Fireflies - 7 / 10
Finally got around to watching this since U4EA was the 8th person to mention the damn movie in the past week for me.
I don't understand... people had me believing I was going to witness the greatest tragedy ever written. I ended up getting bored halfway through.
Sure, it was sad and everything, but damn, it's not that bad -_- The thing that impressed me the most was the animation seeing as how it was made in 1988. Must have sucked to have to draw those frames out by hand.
Don't get me wrong, it was good but it wasn't anywhere near as messed up as I thought it was going to be (Elfen Lied)

Re: The last movie you saw
Nah, Hurt Locker really wasn't that good. The only positive of the movie is the suspenseful scenes. As a "Showing how it is for those guys" drama it failed massively. The movie is rife with mistakes and they constantly do retarded shit and break protocols. IED you say, around all these people? Fuck it, let's take off all protection and comms and jump in to snip the red wire! Of course, they did this after going out on their own in a 3 man HMMV. Alone. What the fuck. Then, later on in the movie, Renner leads his team of three on a chase to get some terrorists on their own, with no backup. Hard, hard fail on the "realism" with that among other things.xer0s wrote:Yep. Hurt Locker was good, but not best picture good. Hollywood politics ++
If you take it as a narrative drama well, it also fails. There's no character development, all of them end the movie with little growth as far as I can see. I don't know though, I haven't watched it in a few months and can't remember specifics.
Aside from the suspense it gave you and the scene in the grocery store at the end, it was a meh movie. Not Oscar worthy imo.
And Generation Kill was bad ass, but they are apples and oranges.
Re: The last movie you saw
Oh god, I forgot about Renner's leaving the base then running around downtown Baghdad dressed in fatigues and a hoodie. Leaving was retarded, super retarded, REALLY FUCKING RETARDED, and just because he suddenly cared about this kid? That was a cheap try to get some empathy for the character, and the dude would've been murdered on the run home. A hoodie is not a good disguise in Iraq.
His approach to the base and getting back in too...motherfucker would have been shot.

Re: The last movie you saw
Grown Ups 6/10 could be alot better, even with the lame premise of it all.

Inception = 7/10 - A decent film but nowhere near as good as the hype says it is.
Salt = 5/10 -All the good parts can be seen in the trailer.
