So...In an effort to meet the competition finish time of August 6th I am tentatively scheduling the competition to start one week early, on May 25th, and end on August 3rd. This will still give everyone 10 weeks of development time since I don't want to eat into that, however I don't know if there will be enough time to get the judging done before QuakeCon occurs. I hope everyone agrees that this is acceptable given that this schedule change will guarantee every finished map getting some awesome exposure, regardless of how well it does in the competition. We are attending Quakecon, likely with our partner company, and we thought it would be great to try and sync up the contest with the show. This could get you some extra exposure as well as tie in nicely. We will have a booth in the exhibition area and we would like to have the winning maps there for people to be able to play on with our system set-up. With this in mind, we could promote the contest in all the usual channels, plus let people know that attendees at Quakecon can come by our booth and try out the winning maps. Quakecon is taking place Aug 12-15 so, we would need the winning maps (tested) by Aug 6 latest. Given you want to run the contest for 10 weeks, you would need to launch early. What do you think?
If anyone has any problems with this change please reply as soon as you can so I can get back to the sponsor.

Final exams before me and no time to participate. Cytyy, you're so informed - do you think there will be also NoGhost Competition No.3?

As long as this one seems to go over well, yes. I was speaking with Maverick about the results of the first one. This one should be a bit better, and hopefully the next one will surpass this one.Noruen wrote:Damn! Why it must be now...Final exams before me and no time to participate. Mav said he would like to host another competition. I dont know more.. I think it depends on if he has the time and if he finds enough sponsors.

Ah, only 5 judges? That's less than last time, right? I could've helped out if you guys needed it.

I think you could ask maverick about that. Just send him a message over at the competition forums.

Well, I really hope there's another contest, it's good for the Q3 community.cityy wrote:Mav said he would like to host another competition. I dont know more.. I think it depends on if he has the time and if he finds enough sponsors.
However, I feel that it's a great disrespect to maverick and his work put into this, that 75%(!) of the people that signed up didn't deliver, anything.

Re: NoGhost Mapping Competition #2 announced
Well I really doubt anybody meant to be disrespectful by not finishing on time. I'm sure a lot of people registered without knowing whether they would have the time or not. Regardless, I thought this was another great contest with an even better batch of maps than the last. Everything seemed very well executed on Maverick's end. The only thing I can think of to make things even more official is to combine the forums and the information page into one stand-alone website. It's a little annoying to move back and forth as things are.Hipshot wrote:Well, I really hope there's another contest, it's good for the Q3 community.cityy wrote:Mav said he would like to host another competition. I'd love to see a third competition in the future. Maybe during the winter?
Re: NoGhost Mapping Competition #2 announced
I'm positive there will be another contest. I will be more ready for that one for sure. This competition definitely went more smoothly. I think we need to figure out another system to prevent cheating rather than requisite progress shots. We will also refine the list of things for which each map is judged to make it easier because some of the subcategories were slightly confusing to base a score upon.
Truly nobody means to be disrespectful by not finishing, but some people are busy during this time. In one case unforeseeable events took course which rendered the contestant unable to continue about half way through the competition. Obviously nobody wants to withdraw; there are prizes after all. Let's just be thankful that we have events like these happening in an 11 year old game.
Good luck to everyone who made a submission. Judging was tough.

Re: NoGhost Mapping Competition #2 announced
I don't think people signed up and dropped out on purpose.
Maybe I'm taking it too serious, but as I see it - we (q3-mappers) should be ever so grateful that someone has the energy, will and connections to host and organize a contest for a game (like Anthem said) that is 11 years old. So I really don't care for people signing up and then dropping out like that, it annoys me as a level designer for this game and a great supporter for mavericks hard work - which to my knowledge he's doing most himself.
26 contenders ending with 10, even if it had been 100 contenders and 25 left, that's no good either.
Maybe maverick should bring in another game (like HL2/CS) and make Q3 the secondary game. To make the contest more widespread.
Pat, the first contest was held in the winter. And that might have been a better date...

Re: NoGhost Mapping Competition #2 announced
@dk
Yeah, fKd would have to get up at 3:00 AM to come to the channel. Really, it's not that big of a deal to be there. It's more of an extended invitation to anyone who wants to join us.
The results will be posted sometime after the IRC "party". The meeting was simply to round a bunch of us up to share the moment of revealing the winners' podium.
It's definitely no big deal if you can't make it, no use losing sleep over, but the more the merrier.
