Internet brawsers hate this computer

Post by AmIdYfReAk »

Well, this an interesting thing.

I've recently got this computer up and running, At first with windows Vista biz ( i know, horrible )
After about 3 weeks of using the computer, Firefox started crashing to the point where you couldn't OPEN the thing.

So i uninstalled it, and installed chrome.
Within a week, it was doing the same.

Uninstalled that, and updated internet exploder 8
Also within a week it was crashing to the point where you couldn't open it.

So one would think that the computer is unstable, Bad ram, Etc.. .but this is the kicker, I'll let the screen shot explain.

As you can see, it now has windows XP loaded, and its been 5 days since its been fully updated and running.. and Firefox crashed three times yesterday.

Anyone have any ideas on what to try?

also, here is the system specs:

Thanks!

Not a peep from anything else,

Windows hasn't crashed, nor has other common applications like MSN live messenger, or etc.

what have you had running from or at startup on both OS's? if it's affecting every browser but nothing else then another program or service would seem the most likely culprit - that or a dodgy firewall.

The only common thing is Microsoft Security essentials, but it will crash even when uninstalled.

Though, The thing mostly crashed when anything was flash based was being displayed, and lets be honest, what isn't these days?

But uninstalling the flash player made no change.

recent changes maybe
-recently installed ethernet drivers?
-virtual memory
-connection tweaks
-windows update
-poorly removed software
-startup item
-system restore
- a billion other things
you now the regular drill

obviously a memory leak somwhere so it must be software

OCCT is the same as ATI tool,
Furmark also fits under that as well :D

Most of the crashes have happened when the computer was in Vista, Flash has crashed twice since the XP install ( last monday ).

I will check the logs and post what i find.

Hopefully this link will work correctly for you guys,

http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/i ... ca62100725

But its pointing to NPSWF32.dll crashing, That DLL belongs to Flash, But again, it really hasn't happened on this install yet.

It sounds like one of the drivers is faulty. If you can run these fairly basic benchmarks/tests without any trouble, I'd say one of the drivers is attempting to allow some process to take place that is not part of those tests. I would try installing a different video card driver. Maybe the GPU acceleration of flash 10.1 is attempting to interface with the driver API and bombing out because the driver is bad.

Thats what i was thinking as well, The most crashes on vista where caused by flash, Though here in XP its a bit more of a toss up.

assuming it's using the onboard, do you have another card you could try it with after disabling the onboard?

The case is a Mini-ATX style, from the PCI-E slot to the top of the case is no more then 1.5".

I'll get something like ATI tool, or Furmark and run it for a while to see if it will get the GPU to fuck off.

Well, ran Furmark for 8 hours, not a thing.

Also after removing the plugins, upgrading firefox, and disabling/killing Microsoft security essentials all seems to be working well, i wonder how long this will last? :)

Yep, it started insta-crashing on me today.

Then Windows Explorer decided to do so as well..

This time rather then reinstalling firefox and etc, i simply rebooted, everything is in the clear again... this is messed up.

Memory... How old is it, what spec etc? Have you tried taking it out, cleaning them + the slots, and reinserting differently?

OCZ OCZ2P800R21G, Two 1 giggers, They've been in my main desktop for ~2 years prior to putting it in this computer.

They are clocked correctly, and being fed 2.1V

According to this:
http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/m ... al_channel

Under specs, its correct.

Sorry, it was my mistake, They where running 2.0V in the bios.

i've since rebooted and bumped them to 2.1V.
