tnf, I know your pain

Post by Transient »

I drove myself down to the emergency room this morning after doubling up in pain on my bathroom floor. My side was wicked cramped up and I had searing pain in my abdomen and lower left back. After a doctor finally got the change to see me and run some tests, he informed me that I had kidney stones. While I was there I managed to pass one, but he says there's another one on the right side. The morphine drip helped, but holy God was that ordeal a bitch...

Needless to say, I've been drinking water all day like a maniac. :owned:

Does anyone here have tips on how to reduce the chance of a repeat of today? I'm hoping that if I drink enough water (and cranberry juice, I'm told), passing the other stone will be painless.

Depends on the type of stone you have. Probably calcium oxoalate. Avoid too much orange juice, grape juice, soda...drink lots of water.

Kidney stones are abnormal, hard, chemical deposits that form inside your kidneys. Kidney stones are a common problem, with about 10% of Americans expected to pass at least one kidney stone in their lifetime. Stones come in various shapes, colors, and sizes; they can be as small as a grain of sand, the size of peas or marbles, or even as large as your fist.

hate to pass fist sized stone... my pee pee is already small enough

Where does the average person get GOOD health insurance for $30 a month? There a lot of people I know who would like to know.

Sadly, so many people believe this. It's rough to afford good insurance in America when you don't belong to the 9-5 paradigm unless you're already filthy rich or live in a state with more progressive options.

After I stopped working a 9-5 and started riding full time, I did a lot of hunting around and came to the conclusion that my best option was to try not to wreck and foot the bill when and if something bad happens.

I haven't had a stone in about 9 months now and had my CT scan about a month ago. I get the results at the end of the month, but hopefully free of any more stones!

The thing that worked for me is just to replace all my fluids with water. I drink a max of 1 soda a day and no longer drink alcohol. WATER WATER WATER.

I'd rather be tee-total than endure another fucking renal colic. They're that bad.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renal_colic
The pain typically begins in the loin region and often radiates to the hypochondrium or the groin. The pain is often colicky (comes in waves) due to ureteric peristalsis, but may be constant. It may come in two varieties: dull and acute; the acute variation is particularly unpleasant and is often described as one of the strongest pain sensations felt by humans (being worse than childbirth, broken bones, gunshot wounds, burns, or surgery)
Ouch... I'll continue drinking the water also.

I have blue cross - not bad for individuals when provided through your employer.
Rape if you add additional family members to your policy through many plans though.
