Demon's Souls
Demon's Souls
I'm a little late to the party with this, but from what I can gather, it hasn't had a topic here. Who has played it and what do you think?
I'm currently soul level 60 and the initial difficulty has been numbed somewhat, since i'm very powerful now, with good armor/gear and generally just a bad motherfucker. I promised myself i'd stop playing RPG's that require a lot of grinding (read: anything by Atlus) but this game is just too much fun.

Re: Demon's Souls
I could swear I read a post by you fobbing it off in the past brisk.
To the point though, I love the game; so much, I bought it twice, once on import and then when it finally came out over here. It's quite possibly my favourite game on the PS3. It's also got the most innovative multiplayer in years. Nothing gets the heart pounding like an enemy player invading your world in Demon's Souls.
Never take it for granted though brisk. There is always, ALWAYS something ready to kick your ass as soon as you let your guard down.
How have you built your character?
I usually go for heavy magic users, which unfortunately leaves me a bit open when fighting invaders. Very good for single player mind you, especially bosses. I haven't played in a while, but I'd just started buffing the physical attributes on my Euro character to round it out more.

I've heard good things about it but never picked it up. Might have to do that.
Re: Demon's Souls
Definitely no hating on it from me, sir. I always meant to play it, but it is a game that needs serious investment time and i've had other games to finish first. This has my full attention now thoughMat Linnett wrote:I could swear I read a post by you fobbing it off in the past brisk.

I made a soldier class (I always tend to do this with RPGs) and after really struggling on 1-1, mainly because of the sharp learning curve, I spent many hours grinding up my level and getting some decent equipment. I actually did most of my grinding on 4-1, until I realised the 4-2 reaper trick, hah. Silly me.
Anyway, i've killed 6 bosses now and just doing each stage randomly, trying to get some decent loot. I was lame and glitched out old king doran, so i'm rocking all his armor and the demonbrandt. Good times.
Re: Demon's Souls
Also, who did you find to be the hardest boss in the game? And hardest overall stage?
4-2 with the reapers is incredibly annoying. 4-1 was actually quite tough at first too, but like anything in this game, once you've cracked the enemy patterns, it's a cakewalk.

Re: Demon's Souls

Re: Demon's Souls
On one of my characters, I've just started the 5 New Game +. My UK account character is finishing of her third round.
Overall hardest world is world 5, without a doubt. Poison and plague are a serious pain in the ass.
As for boss, probably Maneater until I discovered the sniper glitch.
It's well worth doing at least one round of New Game +. The first round in particular really ramps up the difficulty.
Also, I personally loved the ending. I won't spoil it here, but it was an interesting change of pace. It also gently persuades you to start a new game straight away.

Re: Demon's Souls
I've finished it once and will not be playing it again any time soon. If I was in an abusive relationship I think it would feel a lot like this game.
I built an armored warrior type. I was just fast enough to avoid the instant kill attacks, and strong enough to block almost anything.
Red Eye's can go fuck themselves, and Maneater can give them the reacharound. I didn't have a problem with World 5 due to being crazy resistant to poison and plague. As soon as I was thrust back into world one after beating the game I was invaded. I shut the game off and said fuck that.
I still enjoyed the hell out of the game but it took too much out of me to really maintain that enjoyment. Killing a black phantom is supremely satisfying, but losing is soul crushing.

Re: Demon's Souls
yep, offline mode ftw. levels are hard enough with some invader cunt coming in to ruin your shit further.
Re: Demon's Souls
dont offline mode. youre not playing it right.
Re: Demon's Souls
Yeah offline mode is lame. I like seeing the messages other folks leave, and getting/being a blue phantom to help out on a boss fight can be critical. I just wasn't in the mood to get invaded immediately after completing the game.brisk wrote:yep, offline mode ftw. levels are hard enough with some invader cunt coming in to ruin your shit further.

Re: Demon's Souls
Me too, I think the MP aspect is incredible actually. But for actual progression and grinding, i'm now 100% in offline mode (it also isn't due to the fact my PS3 is jailbroken, honest)
Did you beat the side-bosses too?

A couple. Vanguard, and the jackass that screws up your town. The rest were friendly to me.
