Re: iPad
Poor poofbrain simply freaks out whenever someone relentlessly bashes his toys. If it's not Apple then it's XBox.

The way this discussion was going, I felt the statement required extra emphasis.Pext wrote:inequality is reflexive, you moronobsidian wrote:iPad != netbook, netbook != iPad.

GONNAFISTYA wrote:mac...if you've never heard of a "portable USB hard drive" before (not just "external hard drive"...but portable) that's not my fault. With a portable drive you a still "portable". As to overall USB connectivity, if you don't have need to use a USB flash drive then you won't understand why people do.
If you want an iPad, then get an iPad. All I'm saying is that you want a device that does what the iPad does, you can find cheaper, more robust alternatives and you'll be just as happy with those (if not more) regardless if whether or not Steve Jobs approves of your decision.
And regarding Flash...it doesn't matter what you think of Flash or if you don't like how it's implemented...a very large chunk of the internet is Flash-based and your feelings about it won't change that fact.
i love how most of you didnt change at all in 10 years.. still all the crybabies throwing jpgs at each other

as for the ipad.. what do you need a portable drive for, usb stick, thumbdrive whatever you call them.. you have them to transfer data from point a to point b.. you can send pretty much all data from and to the ipad. why do you need a thumbdrive if you can do all this over the air without the need of a thumbdrive. is it not great that you don't need a floppy drive anymore.. you can send/push/recieve everything over wifi, bluetooth etc. i myself own 3 thumbdrives.. 4,8 and 16gb.. and to be honest i don't even know where they currently are.. i havent used them in ages.
i already have an iPad and i would really like to know where you can find cheaper, more robust alternatives.. would really like to know what thoose magical devices should be because i know pretty much all tablets, and most of them don't come even close price/quality wise..
and your right about flash , a huge chunk of the web is flash.. sadly that huge chunk is most junk called adds..
at best fullscreen with tiny hidden X close buttons.. and we should not start to talk about flash because i have strong feeling against it.. and people calling flash bricks a website are just stupid.. webdesigner making flash websites without offer html alternatives because they can't script html is just sad.. but thats a different thing completly unrelated to apple and what they support or not..
fact is most mobile platform do not support flash.. and thoose who do.. do poorly because no jack ass "flash designer" cares at all about performance, ressources their brick eats up or anything.. ahh well i'm ranting again..

Re: iPad
I've given you lots of info to make a decision against buying one (to which I thought you came to the same conclusion) and the Apple fanbois have retorted with "no u don't need USB & Flash designers are poo poo".
Lemme guess: you're one of those "undecided" voters during elections as well?

No. But you have to be a fanboi to give weak rationales and then get pissed when someone bashes your weak rationales.
Re: iPad
actually i left out a crucial piece of info, which was what i would use it for. it would appear that for my particular intended use the iPad isn't really suitable, though a smallish netbook might. on the other hand, someone with another use - such as watching movies, playing games, surfing the web etc on the move - would find it handyGONNAFISTYA wrote:I've given you lots of info to make a decision against buying one (to which I thought you came to the same conclusion) and the Apple fanbois have retorted with "no u don't need USB & Flash designers are poo poo".
yes, democracy is exactly like the decision-making process regards purchasing a piece of consumer electronics. how silly of me not to see thatLemme guess: you're one of those "undecided" voters during elections as well?

Re: iPad
No I meant it that there are people who - even after hearing tons of arguments for and against...on any subject - still can't make up their minds.seremtan wrote:yes, democracy is exactly like the decision-making process regards purchasing a piece of consumer electronics. how silly of me not to see that
But as I said...it appears you have.
Re: iPad
Not being fanboy here - but aside from small netbooks, what is out there that is cheaper and more robust than the iPad? I wasn't even aware there were tablets from other brands like the iPad. A very effective use of it for weddings is to dump a bunch of the pictures from the ceremony and pre-wedding stuff, as well as engagement shots, etc., from a laptop running lightroom to an iPad while everyone is eating dinner. Then you set up the iPad on photo frame mode and pass it around during the reception. Everyone absolutely loves this as they can scroll through the shots themselves just as if they were handed a photo album from the wedding before it was over. this also gets the photographer a lot of quick advertising and the iPad's display is beautiful for photos. This is the kind of stuff I got it for, and I haven't seen anything that would do a better job - but perhaps that is just because I didn't know there was something that would.
Re: iPad
thats because there isn't any real competitor out.. except the mysterious one FISTY knows about.. but he rather likes to throw around jpgs..tnf wrote:Not being fanboy here - but aside from small netbooks, what is out there that is cheaper and more robust than the iPad? .... the only things that come close are a few android fuckup attempts.. but even google said the current versions are not ready for the task and v.3 might be the one that will stand against apple current offer.. but by then there is nothing compareable.. the biggest problem with android tablets is that the ui is meant for the small screen and you feel it everywhere.. if you are lucky the manufacturer gives you their own version of a home screen with optimized ui etc. but usualy that just stops if you go one step deeper in to the system then blam.. your annoyed with unoptimized crap.. yes it works but it does not work even close as smooth as the ipad does.. time will change that.. but i don't care what comes out next year or the year after that.. if i buy something i want to use it now.. and not wait on a os update that might or might not come for the device i bought..
so you have iOS, Android and some horrible cookups you would rather not even try out..
so FISTY.. whats your magic tablet device no one knows about but is so great? still waiting for an answere.. and hopefully it has usb slot next to its 3,5"floppy drive! don't forget decent build quality, decent screen and a pricetag below 500$ thank you.
