you're blaming the interwebs for your own incompetence?

When something goes wrong, always blame it on external factors. You know this is true.

Clearly this chimpleton never saw Trading Places.seremtan wrote:i'm pretty suspicious of talk of 'environment' and 'atmosphere' contributing to events like this. it seems to reduce individual agency to nothing more than a garbage-in-garbage-out type of affair - which is bad if you care about freedom, which pretty much depends on some notion of individual responsibility and autonomy
if we're just automatons programmed by our environment, then there goes every freedom we enjoy (including democracy)

Child-chasing Chimpleton also doesn't realize he's the first one to actually mention Nazis. Re-read my post if you don't believe me...I was talking about nationalism.
Since people clearly don't want to mention what happened in Germany, I'll give another example of 'environment' and 'atmosphere' where the nationalism rhetoric turned a country's citizens into mindless idiots: the United States in the buildup to the Iraq war.

exactly. iirc he pled the fifth after he was arrested, so we don't really know what was going through his head. also he had a grudge against pima community college (wherever that is) after calling them "unconstitutional" and then getting expelled, but didn't go all columbine on it, which is strangeNightshade wrote:Has anyone actually heard any evidence that this guy was anything more than a nutter? I have no idea what motivated the moron to do what he did and never claimed to know. I took issue with your dismissal of 'environment' and 'atmosphere' influencing people's perspective and actions, but of course you didn't notice because you saw the word "Germany", ignored everything else and thought you'd be cute invoking Godwin's Law.seremtan wrote: yeah, you're right. no one ever mentions what happened in germany. it's like it's taboo or somethingit also has fuck-all to do with the thread since this is about one single guy's actions not an entire nation's, but don't let a minor detail like that get in your way.
You really have gone stupid lately.

i just feel bad for all those involved. its just a sign of a sick society bla bla bla.
clearly the guy needed help, but these days if ppl see something wrong with someone, they dont ask to see if they can help. why did the school not get involved? why did his family/friends not get involved? there was a whole heap of evidence that he was clearly unstable.. society lacks community and that breeds the angry loner type. give that enough time and this seems to be what you get.
or something....
god i feel so bad for those who have lost a loved one. tragedy

Re: Arizona Congresswoman shot in the head at public rally
The truth. Most people have dollar signs in their eyes and generally all they think about is their own environment and the best path to make it better and wealthier in the fastest manner possible with little or no regard for fellow man. It's kind of funny (read: pathetic and/or sad) nowadays when you walk down the road and say hi to someone, they give you a look like they don't even know what the fuck just happened cuz they are too busy staring at the ground and thinking about itunes or some fuckin' shit. I agree though, someone probably should have done something for this dude (friends, schools, parents, etc.)... would it have prevented this? Possibly not. It seems like he was pretty fucking strange either way, but who knows. Hindsight is 20/20, right? Waste of energy to postulate "well, if this then this," or "if that, then this." I'm kinda curious to know what his father did after this kid apparently ran into the desert after his father questioned him about some black bag he was removing from the trunk of his car? I'm not a parent but I would like to think that if my kid ran for the hills simply due to an inquiry on my part, I would likely chase after him and ask wtf was going on, heh.fKd wrote:i just feel bad for all those involved. its just a sign of a sick society bla bla bla.

he sounds like fatty and geoff's love child...he used marijuana... He became intrigued by antigovernment conspiracy theories, including that the Sept. 11 attacks were perpetrated by the government... His anger would well up at the sight of President George W. Bush, or in discussing what he considered to be the nefarious designs of government.

Sounds like Giffords is making great progress. Makes you wonder if she'll want to continue on with her political career as a congresswoman after she's out of the hospital. Granted she'll probably have a tremendous amount of physical and mental therapy in the months or years to come.
