LD Promo PTM

Post by Infernis »

Hello,

I'm looking for 5 mappers who would be willing to work on a LD Promo PTM. The map layout would be divided much like the number 5 on a dice. Each mapper would work on his own section and pass it a long to the next mapper. One of the mappers would make the alpha build containing the 5 sections and after everyone is done, he would pack it up so we can post it everywhere.

The idea behind it is to promote the site a little and get some activity going between mappers. On the other hand is it a great way for people to work together and extent their portfolio's.

Theme, gametype, texturepack, etc is all up to the participants. The only requirement is that you include the LD banner in the map. A .PSD file is available if required.

If this is a succes, I'm going to try to get the same project going in the Unreal community and then hopefully have a small competition between a Quake and Unreal PTM team.

If interested, sent me a pm. Please do include samples of previous work.

Thank you!

This takes me back to organising the map center pass the map. I had skin and twisted going head to head on irc....shudder. Skin deleted a huge chunk of HReapers section to fit in his own stuff. Good luck inf!!!!

It sounds like Infernis is going to be a little more selective as far as who is working on the project.

He's promoting his forum, LevelDesign.nl (LD)

PTM is a Pass The Map event. It's a fun (or stressful - see dONKEY above) collaborative mapping event where one person works on part of a map for a set period of time before passing it on to the next person.

SkinNCNmaster and Twisted were both batshit crazies who wouldn't be able to get along with a cute kitten shaped nodding bobblehead toy.

I've got 2 applicants, anyone else interested?

I did expect more, so if interest remains low I'll fill in one slot myself. Even though it's ages ago :D

Apparently this was easier to put together before. It shows that times change. So I dropped the idea. Thanks for the replies.

@fkd: Thanks for the interest.

I think this would be much more interesting if it were a small map and different people had different roles, one focusing on layout and item placement, another focusing on textures, another focusing on detailed brushwork and another on models.

Ok, cool! Lots of replies all of a sudden :dork:

Apparently, Obsidian his idea is generating interest. Kudos for that mate.

So, what are you guys thinking?

Small tourneymap?

Roles divided into:
Layout/Alpha
Item placement
Mapper
Texture artist
Skybox
Optimizer [improving performance, making bots work, creating the levelshot, pk3, etc]

Something like that? Texturing could be done with an existing set or a newly created one. Skybox, if used, should be made by one person or a existing one could be used by the Texture artist.

That sounds good to me - I think a small tourney map is a good format for a first attempt at this type of PTM.

If you guys need someone to give the map an extra level of polish (more details, models, shaders, etc.) I could help out with that.

I vote Noruen for skybox.

I could do several stuff. I like item placement, finsihing areas or texturing.
I have some textures lurking on my HDD for some time now. I made them for my ctf map. Never finished it. Those could be used as a base, if you like.

Dunno if anyone would be interested but my kazdm6 alpha is just sitting around unused, I'd be happy donating it for the layout. If you all want to make one from scratch that is cool too, just offering :).

Let's see:

Kaz - Donates his alpha [is it completely finished or does it need some more work? Are the items already placed?].
Anthem - Really wants to do the item placement.
Sumatra - Donates his textures and textures the map.
Noruen - Would make the skybox.
Obsidian - Would give the map some polish.

We're left then with 2 slots to fill. The mapper, for which we can't ask Shadow since it's not one room but an entire map. Plus, the Optimizer, for lack of a better word.

Ok, but please - if you want skybox, try to make in map some open areas or windows. And will we have some poll for theme, gametype etc?
