don't run the updates until the server is updated, bukkit mod and all the plug ins are usually a day or 3 behind the main update. grab the older minecraft.jar file from someone you trust and just replace the new one. If you have not done so already get the latest minecraft launcher from minecraft.net. The new launcher asks you before updating.

I updated the server to notch's latest. I recommend people play in the next day cause there seems to be some temporary trickery going on
