ok, I've been playing quake for a long while....I've recently set it up on my girlfriends computer, she doesn't have a killer system, but it's ok.....the problem is, I can play quake fine for a few seconds with a fps of around 90, but then it drops down to like 2 fps, then after a minute, it jumps back up.....and I do not know why......it seems almost like really bad lag, only it happens in single player mode. computer specs are as follows:
P4 1.8 Ghz
512 Mb RAM
geforce 2 mx 100/200 64 Mb card
running win XP pro SP 2
I've turned the graphics way down...shut down all the other progs, and downloaded the latest drivers from nvidia.....any ideas as to why this is happening? cuz it sucks! thanks in advance.
Q3A running way worse than it should!
First thing first...while over the girlfriend house you shoundn't be worried about quake, you should be worried about...................
but to be honest....."back in the day" I had this problem as well, (it's what made me come here actually)......
Go into your Quake 3 folder, then baseq3, then delete your q3config.cfg file.
Reload Quake 3 and see if the problem is still there. My problem was a little diffrent, but along the same lines. Wort a try anyway...
GL!

Ok - I am about to save your day.
The problem is your AGP Aperture setting. I had this exact same problem. Once I raised the AGP Aperture setting, Quake ran fine. Check the Nvidia FAQ for more info...
