Yeah, been caught and stopped, had a couple of meaningless threats, and some near-misses etc..

Since the stuff I explore is derelict and abandoned, and I'm only going there to record and document it, I'm not a particular threat to the value of the building or its contents.

Sad, not all urbexers act ike this...

In January I explored an abandoned railway power station which must be shut down for at least 30 years now.

Please try to turn a blind eye to the chromatic aberrations. I know I need a better lens....

Do me a favour if you are in that area again, get a moody shot of the Grennwich tunnel. I walked through tere alone one night a few years ago and I can say I have been in very few places I felt more intimidated and eerie. Would be good to have a nice picture of it

I would like to say "nice picts" but the chromatic aberrations made me both vomit into my lap and kill the first kitten that I saw. You're a horrible human being and you should be strangled with your own intestines you stupid fag.

Oh...and nice picts.

Can any UKers recommend a good online printing service? Just had 10 6x10 prints done and it cost £35 fat ones...seems a little steep?

Sounds about right, assuming they are on decent paper.

Quote:
This dream-like picture shows each phase of the sun over Bristol’s Clifton Suspension Bridge taken during half a year. The image was captured on a pin-hole camera made from an empty soda can with a 0.25mm aperture and a single sheet of photographic paper. Photographer Justin Quinnell strapped the camera to a telephone pole overlooking the Gorge, where it was left between December 19, 2007 and June 21, 2008—the Winter and Summer solstices. (That’s a 15,552,000 second exposure.) ‘Solargraph’ shows six months of the sun’s luminescent trails and its subtle change of course caused by the earth’s movement in orbit. The lowest arc being the first day of exposure on the Winter solstice, while the top curves were captured mid-Summer. (Dotted lines of light are the result of overcast days when the sun struggled to penetrate the cloud.) Quinnell, a renowned pin-hole camera artist, says the photograph took on a personal resonance after his father passed away on April 13—halfway through the exposure. He says the picture allows him to pinpoint the exact location of the sun in the sky at the moment of his father passing.

I could get into this shit. http://www.pinholephotography.org/galle ... index.html

Isn't that now a tourist attraction?

In the same sense that North Korea is a tourist attraction, yes.

I've read about how people have recently started going back to areas near Chernobyl and started living there, despite them still being dangerously radioactive and not officially designated liveable. Would be cool if you could find any evidence of this. Looking forward to the shots, good luck.

There was a popular internet site a few years back full of pictures from someone who did a solo motorcycle ride through Chernobyl/Pripyat - I'm guessing you saw some of her stuff? Although hers were mainly just snapshots, I can't wait to see what you do with them. Definitely looking forward to these ones.

Canon 7D and 24-70mm f2.8 L and some accessories, ordered. Had to order the camera with the kit lens because everything else was out of stock but only wound up costing around $100 more so no biggy...
Will be taking pictures of it probably apr 21st :)

Er, no Chernobyl is seems for me. Russian government have denied my visa. I'm not allowed to enter the country. No reason given, just a straight denial according to my tour arranger.

"not at this time" apparently, but I wonder if that's the guides language rather than the government.

worth doing some research.

Is there any option of not going via a guide? apply for some kind of working visa as a professional photographer maybe?

That's exactly what I had done. I was going on my press pass as a photojournalist. Sucks man, I'm just waiting to here back from another guide, I'm going to reapply as a tourist and see what happens.

they have something to hide I tell you :p Besides I figured that most photojournalists rather hide that particular aspect of their visit...after all they are a part of how information (in one form or another) gets out to the public in a big way. Who knows maybe the idea of someone sniffing about is not greeted very well.
