I feel completely relaxed, maybe too relaxed, actually, because my shoulders and neck feel a bit wobbly when I run.

if you're running on a treadmill you might also be at a weird speed. everyone has different optimum speeds to run at, and they try and run slower and it fucks up their biomechanics.

It does suck, but what doesn't suck is knowing you were only able to make that post because your wife paid the electric this month.

I can't tell if you're giving intentionally bad advice or not.HM-PuFFNSTuFF wrote:You want to land on your heel and roll up on to your toes when you run.Yeahso wrote:My problem seems to be with the landing. This sounds about right. It didn't feel a very comfortable speed. I didn't want to run any faster, because I was unsure of my current fitness, but it felt slow to the point where my arms felt a bit useless and cumbersome.feedback wrote:if you're running on a treadmill you might also be at a weird speed. everyone has different optimum speeds to run at, and they try and run slower and it fucks up their biomechanics.
If I'm doing intervals, which are new to me, should I be either walking, or running my ass off?

No you won't be, you'll be fulfilling the traditionally feminine role of looking after the children and running the home.
Don't try and kid me that you're kicking back. You're an older man in your 40's, with no job, a heart problem, and zero prospects.
The only reason why you don't engage in actual communication on this forum is because you don't have the real life stimulation other people get that gives them something to talk about.
You're just utterly unattractive in every way.

But even then, you're a jobless out of shape older man with grey hair and a heart condition. Even the most desperate homosexual would aim higher than you.
Fucking you would likely bring on a coronary, and then who'd be around to operate the dishwasher?

One of his roughly 28 troglodyte kids could probably do it.
Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
Actually that's the exact opposite but nice troll ... running barefoot forces you to run correctly, landing ball first.. even nearly flatfooted... as long as you land with your foot under your hip and not in front of it. It takes a long time to unlearn the 'new' way of running that was brought on by 'running shoes' and the heel strike technique that destroys your legs. I've never had any kind of injuries running barefoot, save for some minor skin loss which is nothing.HM-PuFFNSTuFF wrote:You want to land on your heel and roll up on to your toes when you run.Yeahso wrote:My problem seems to be with the landing. Do you run barefoot, Andy?
I think my problem may well be that I'm landing with my foot slightly forward, I didn't realise that was a problem, but now I do remember the book I was reading mentioning how upright you have to be when you run. Have you got any resources I can look at or specific tips you can give me to make this a bit less painless?
Also, how long did it take you before your feet fully adjusted?

I'll go barefoot whenever I can, but always with some tape on my feet just to prevent big blisters. Concrete is actually nice to run on compared to the Florida grass, mostly because there's all sorts of prickly's in the grass that hurt. For trail runs I may wear shoes, usually the five fingers and i got a pair of new balance Minimus that I really like for all around use, wore them on the Miami super spartan race and will wear them again this sunday for a 10mile off-trail race through the woods. Even with those I'll just put some tape on my usual hotspots and go without socks.
When I started out running in the five finger shoes about a year ago, I just went out and ran a couple miles to see what would happen and I didn't really start to get the stride right until I was finished. Then my calves would be sore for a couple days, and I'd try again. Took a few weeks to get the stride down and strength up to really just go out and run. Then a month later the workout of the day was just a 5k and I was feeling good so I went with no shoes at all (or shirt) and felt light as a feather, overall just really really good on the run and that was probably the most fun I've had running. Sure I got some pretty nasty holes in my feet from the hot rubber trail and virgin skin, but it was worth it.
The longest I've gone barefoot was that 10k, and the longest in ff's was 7.6 miles as part of a relay where my next two legs were 3.8 and 6.4 miles. I've been doing more and more workouts barefoot as I like the feeling a lot better, unless we're in the grass where the ants are. In July I might do a 3.8mile trail/adventure run barefoot but plenty taped up as it goes over rocks and broken seashells.
As for resources, I scoured youtube for barefoot running videos and found a lot of information, plus the web has lots of resources as well. although I've never read it, a lot of people swear by this book: http://www.amazon.com/dp/0307266303?tag ... C158D5DE4&
I think it took about two months to be fully capable of running barefoot and not have wore out calves. Nowadays I know I can go kill a 5k without any problems, and expect a few holes after a 10k depending on how many turns (on concrete, with just tape). I don't consider myself a distance runner only because I never run long distances but I've been going further these last 5 months and it's not as bad as I expected. Soon enough I'll get serious and do a marathon barefoot, maybe in another 6 months.
Edit: I still hear about the christmas 10k i did from people, even now and on the other side of the world. it really boggled some peoples minds...
Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
lol, Born To Run was the book I was talking about! Can't believe you haven't read it, man. I read it when I absolutely hated running, and by the end I was literally ready to quit bodybuilding just based on that book.
Thanks for the info, man. I've got a pair of Vibram's that I wear as normal shoes, and I also train in them, so I was assuming that my calves would already be strong, but the aren't at all. Guess I'll just wait a couple of months.
I had to email my girlfriend that picture of you in the race, she runs barefoot, so I knew she'd appreciate it.
Cheers dude.

Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
First day of new workout today. Using a routine of complexes.
5 sets per complex, working up to a maximum for the final set.
Final working set was:
440lb partial deadlifts
300lb full deadlifts
135lb power cleans from waist
80lb jumping good mornings
standing forward jumps, feet together.
Did 5 reps for each set, was completely fucked afterwards. Finished with 10 minutes of 1 minute walks, with 15 second sprints on the treadmill.
Too unfit to finish the full ten minutes, managed three.

what a fag...
Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
Damn, 5x5 is a lot of reps if you're lifting any weight at all on the first 4 sets, by the last set you'd be hard pressed to get anywhere near your 5rm. It sounds like you're doing a variation of the 5x5 program, which one?Yeahso wrote:First day of new workout today. Using a routine of complexes.

Also, why power clean from waist? better to do all big lifts (power cleans, deadlifts) from the floor each time.

Nah, not 5x5.
The theory (not mine) is that each exercise in the complex becomes progressively lighter, moving from overload all the way down to plyometric bodyweight exercises.
The first exercise is a partial, because it means I can absolutely max out at the most important part of the rep without fatiguing myself for the next four exercises in the complex. Then I move on to the floor deadlift, and by the time I've got to the partial clean, which is the 3rd exercise, I'm moving into explosive strength, so I perform the clean with a very small jump. All the reps in the exercises are very fast, only the overload exercise is done with a pause between reps.
None of the exercises are supposed to be done to failure, the entire complex is trained to failure, but not individual exercises. By the 5th round I was absolutely dead.
In this instance, the partial clean is not a big lift, it's a transitional exercise designed to burn out the upper back a little bit more after the deadlifts.
This was the first time round, so I kept weights a bit lower than I think I'm capable off. I'm going to aim for a 600lb partial,, which I think is possible, because the 440 was piss easy, and then have 440 for the full deadlift.
Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
Actually, no, 440 for the deadlift wouldn't work at all, it'd be way too heavy. I'll stick with the 300.
Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
squats is all u need for legs...doing full deads is a waste of time....btw...440 partial is pathetic...
