I'm with seremtan on this one. Just sounds like some nerdy school music teacher or whatever taking advantage of their impressionable young students. And it wasn't very well executed either.
, in Ceaser's parlance.

Re: Portal 2 in Februari!
Well I picked this up a couple days ago. Absolutely amazing game. I haven't really found it all that difficult. But one of my buddies says it's really frustrating for him.
The game also feels really lonely. I'm use to having lots of characters in the games I play, so this is quite the change. Nevertheless it's really fun so far. Ready to start some coop...

Played through a bit of this ; solid gold so far. It got me back into Portal 1 actually, I'm working on my lazy-man-speed-runs (portal 1 in 24 minutes) How did you all fare in Portal 1?
I'm not sure what's going on here, but this guy seems to have found a way "outside" the maps, and that extrernally, all surfaces are portal-able.

Anyone know how this works? or rather..why it works?

Re: Portal 2 in Februari!

Portal is a prime candidate for true "episodal content".
Re: Portal 2 in Februari!
well hammer (the portal map editor) is additive rather than subtractive, so outside the map is the void. not sure if caulk is portal friendly (especially since you can't actually see it), but sometimes level designers get lazy and use non-caulk textures on hidden surfaces (such as those on the reverse of walls abutting the void), and i'm guessing those textures are portal-friendlyVolumetricSteve wrote:Played through a bit of this ; solid gold so far. I wondered if something along those lines was the case. But I wondered more how he managed to get outside. In the video it looks like he's putting some very careful aim into placing those portals to do it, but I don't see what it is about their positioning that makes the magic happen.
Re: Portal 2 in Februari!
nothing, really. he makes a portal, then positions himself halfway inside it and then removes the portal he's in. the engine pushes him out of the wall towards the edge he is closest to. normally that means the inside of the room but if done exactly right, you will get pushed outside of the map.
Re: Portal 2 in Februari!
The speedrun has been posted on Q3W before I think, but then uploaded by the original speed runner. He also has a number of videos on his YouTube channel where he explains exactly how he does each of the puzzles in the speed run, including skipping entire puzzles.
I think the "getting outside the level" can only be done in certain spots by the way. It's exploiting a bug in the game.

give me mapping tools valve! user content would be great!

he's done way better.Memphis wrote:Yahtzee's take on it
i suppose its credit to the game if the biggest gripe is "its not portal 1".
Re: Portal 2 in Februari!
I agree with the part about "in-between bits". That was the only part of the game that slowed me down and it wasn't because it was hard. The actual puzzles were too "linear" in my opinion. Meaning that all you had to do was start at the "thing this section is about" and then follow the portal surfaces to the exit door. There wasn't a single map where I even had to start over and rethink my approach.Memphis wrote:Yahtzee's take on it

Cool ending to the singleplayer.
SPOILER
Is there alternate endings to the singleplayer? As soon as I saw the moon, I blasted it. So I have no idea if there was another option or if she would have given me instructions to shoot the moon. Anyways, fun game...
