Probably based on US "intel".
I agree it's all symbollocks.
More the need to put a face on teh scary than anything else.
Also taking into account all these reports about this tendency in the terrorism industry toward sleeping cell, autonomic lone-wolfism.
You may very well be right.seremtan wrote:nah. jihad was flavour of last month, and was never really that big of a draw anyway. in the western imagination, it was a big shadow cast by a small entity. a few people will rage, a few other people will get the whole AMERICA, FUCK YEAH thing out of their systems, then people will realise nothing really changedPlan B wrote:I *do* however think that the outfall caused by just the symbolism of taking down this icon shouldn't be underestimated;
On the "western front" the closing of ranks was pretty much immediately evident, with the flag waving and fuck-yeah-usa'ing.
And on the "eastern front", this action will probably cause a lot of frustration and indignation. Working as a catalyst for those already inclined to "take action".
("western front" and "eastern front" may be a bit simplistic, but at some point you've got to generalise and categorise to wrap your head around shit.)
Case of let's see what happens.
