People like this really fuck me off. No need for the tears and upset; it is a fucking script in a game where all the abuse is aimed at you to throw you off. It is a game mechanic. It was not meant in bad blood or to genuinlt offend.

Umm, who the fuck plays Portal 2 with a 10 year old? The game may be rated E, but that doesn't mean a 10 year old can actually understand the underlying narrative. Mario Kart has a 3+ rating, but that doesn't mean the average 3 year old kid is able to actually play this game in any meaningful way.

actually, my brother's girlfriend has 2 kids who were over for the weekend, and they played Portal2 co-op. 12 and 6, respectively.

and they actually solved the puzzles, too

I'm not talking about puzzle solving or understanding the game mechanics. I'm talking about the underlying narrative. The "relationship" between Chell and GLaDOS and knowing why GLaDOS says the things she says.

The same thing is true for a lot of Pixar movies. While they are suitable for young children and they'll have fun watching them, a huge portion of the charm of those movies and the cleverness behind them is completely lost on children because they require the viewer to understand concepts such as irony, sarcasm or other rhetorics as they are subtly applied in these movies.

Perhaps the Mario Kart thing threw you off a bit there, as that is about game mechanics. But it's a different age category altogether.
