Anyone order books from sites other than Amazon?

I just ordered a few books from Budd Plant. Link: Bud Plant

I already placed my order and now wish I had added this one In the Blink of an Eye

BookDepository.com

UK company, great prices (generally cheaper than Amazon) and free worldwide shipping. I ordered a stack of stuff recently, very happy.

(Also replied to your computer thread in T&T, BTW)

"In The Blink Of An Eye" looks like a awesome book and going to go look for it today.

Unfortunately I don't have any links for you to order books. I still use the old fashioned way of going to the book store and buying them *sigh* (old people)

Not unless i really can't find what i'm looking for in ye regular olde bookshoppe. I love bookstores, can spend hours in one just looking at all the different stuff. And my favorite one has a decent selection of second hand books as well anyways, so... :D

we have several huge bookstores in town, and i hate most of them because you have to run the gauntlet of celeb bios, jamie oliver cookbooks and other worthless shit to get to the good stuff

otoh blackwells is excellent (aimed at the university crowd), and massive

lars,

I love going to the bookstore. I'd actually rather go to a store and look a book over before buying it. My ex used to work in a speciality book warehouse. Most of their books weren't sent to places like Barnes and Noble, Waldens, etc. Bud Plant is the closest I've been able to get to purchasing the types of books they stocked.

I hope books don't go the way of albums and 45s. I knew I was getting old when I was telling someone I was going to get an album and they asked me what an album was :tear:

There's something cold and soulless about a library with a row of Nooks/Kindles sitting on the shelf waiting to be checked out.

You're right, the bookstores should forgo the business savvy way of making the most profit, and just put all the copies of C++ For Dummies and How To Lure Small Children right at the front of the store...

did i say putting popular shite at the front was bad for business? i just said i hated it

it's kind of like if someone points out how you try to be funny, but actually aren't: it's a valid opinion, but expressing it doesn't trample on your 1st amendment rights

Second hand book shops run by Dylan Moran types and abebooks.com for rare and first editions. Amazon for paperback and reference.

I second serem's blackwells recommendation. They also sometimes do decent postcards.
