It tries hard to be the sickest film ever made and it comes close.... Insane Full penetration fucking some girl from behind..then someone hands him a machete and he hacks her head off. Woman gives birth in graphic close up, man pulls out baby and then he fucks it. It tries hard.

Tries a bit too hard IMO, and ends up being very forced and unbelievable. Almost to a comic degree [like you thought about Human Centipede]. It was sick, for sure, but it didn’t affect me the same way something like Irreversible did.

I also found out about it through zark's post after searching Q3W for The Human Centipede [after seeing the South Park season debut, HUMANCENTiPAD].

I suppose the reason I watched it is a tinge of morbid curiosity but mostly because I spent some time reading up about the film, reactions to it and statements by the screenwriter:

This is a diary of our own molestation by the Serbian government. We’re giving this back to you. [..] In the past 10 to 15 years, the only films made in Serbia have no connection to Serbian reality. [..] It’s about the monolithic power of leaders who hypnotize you to do things you don’t want to do. You have to feel the violence to know what it’s about.

Which, after having seen the film, IMO is a croc of shit.

The King's Speech - 9/10

The reluctant prince who never expected to be crowned is to succeed his brother as King George VI, has a speech impediment which hinders his ability to inspire his countrymen as England is drawn into war with Nazi Germany. A humble speech therapist with unconventional methods and requirements is found and the two get off on a rocky relationship. Great acting from all the cast. Each character shows a certain vulnerability and strength matched by the other people in the film.

"Angels of the Universe"

Really nice islandic dramedy. In the end more drama than comedy. Contains some remarkably hilarious scenes.
Follows the story of an unstable male around 30, who, after having been left by his GF, spirals down into depression and madness.
Sounds sadder than it actually is. 7/10

"Inside" / "A l'interieur"
Top notch french slasher movie. IMO, the holy grail of that sub-genre. No attempts at mythological/demonic explanations, just plain depravity.
The last night before she is supposed to go to the hospital to give birth becomes a nightmare for a photographer around 30 as a vicious "femme" all dressed in black intrudes her house and starts to terrorize her. Not in a psychological manner.
Not for the faint-hearted. Really nasty in-your-face horror-momentums. Get it un-cut. 9/10

I saw both of them, brisk. As well as "Frontiere/s" and "Haute Tension".
I don't think you could compare "Inside" to "Martyrs" as the latter is not a slasher movie but rather torture/without porn.
Sure, they are all french horror movies but that does not legitimate one to throw them into one basket.
You could compare "Inside" to "Haute Tension"/"High Tension" or "Baise Moi" if you want to. And within that race, "Inside" kicks the others out of competition.
But it's a matter of taste. I, for my taste, would even consider "Inside" a better movie than "Martyrs" because it doesn't try to find a reason which goes beyond, say, "normal" (whatever that means) human behaviour.

Well sure, it it all fits cosily in that french extreme cinema mould. It is is what it is really. They're not exactly intellectual masterpieces, but there is a certain aesthetic and tension that is oddly appealing. I think it's the cinematography more than anything. Gasper Noe's films aren't really very good when you break them down, but his cinematography and camera work is just incredible. If Enter The Void was half the length and a little less repetitive, it would be a really superb film. I got serious 2001 vibes watching it.

The best "horror" film i've seen in recent years was Let The Right One In. In fact, i'd even say that the American remake "Let Me In" is the superior film, even though it's pretty much a copypasta of the original, mainly cos the performances by the lead children were superior and more human. It's such a moving, sensitive film and completely turns the vampire genre on it's head. Fantastic score too.

I haven't seen the US version yet. The swedish prod. was pretty good. I did like it although I'm not too much into the Vampire genre after all (I prefer Zombies ). Á propros, just finished reading "World War Z" and had read about major company/s planning an adaption for the screen with big names attached to it. Not quite sure what to think of that.

I'm looking forward to seeing Enter The Void. Probably next week. Yes, "2001" has been mentioned quite often in the reviews. Too bad I don't do drugs . I like Gaspar as a person. As sick of films as he does he seems to be a much more like-able character than Von Trier.

Yep. After reading what little info is out there on it i decided the chance is very slim indeed they will make this anywhere near good. There's that eternally sad looking cunt from Heroes, Brad Pitt who hasn't been all that good in his last few movies and the director is the dude who made Babylon 5, which was gash. Set expectations to low.

On the downside I could imagine WWZ to be a good movie. The book is 40% perfect screen-fodder and another 20% quite nice backstory and the rest rubbish. Sure, it steals from anything known but it does so in a good way.
Also looking forward to anything new from the CGI thing/sequel to "Night Of The Living Dead". Looked promising from that one stil but seems to have been a loud mouth.

On the threat:

Credits just rolled out. Hmmmm, not quite sure. What is the message? I live in Germany, my brother lives in Guatemala. So I do know a little of the actual backdrop of the mexican/US border as well as the influence of the US on the central/south american states. McCarthy till present day. Still, I didn't quite get the allegory. Immigrants in general? MS-13?
The female lead surely is an ethereal look to have at but the male lead kind of fades away.
Stil, I'd give it a 7/10 for the different approach at the genre.

edit: After a little thought I have to lower the ranking to a 6/10. As much of an effort this film is to achieve something in the genre with little money the more pityful it is that the message just doesn't get carried over.

Haven't seen the original but this is a fine example of why remakes are not necessary when they come at a wrong time and fail to hit the audience. From my dubbed german version I couldn't say the acting was bad. It was decent enough for what to expect from a flick like that. The Sherif could have been a lot more Bad Ass though.
What I really blame here is the script. Probably they took the "re" of revenge as a motiv and translated it into repetitive.
Waste of money, 3/10.

The Passion of the Christ - 3/10

Goes well with the horror/torture stint I've been on recently, though not quite as good as some of the others I've seen these past few weeks. I do have to say it was way too drawn out, they could've easily lost half an hour or so. The flashbacks were a nice touch.

BTW, who was the bald chick in black that walked around giving sinister looks to people? She's screaming at the sky near the end on some random patch of parched land.

Also, it reminded me quite a bit of another movie I saw a few years ago, Life of Brian. Seems they just took the basic plot from that, altered a few minor details [like the main dude's name], made it a lot less funny and called it a day.

Couldn't help but hum "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" at the end.
