To counteract the experience orb bug, put all your stuff in a box somewhere and swim in some deep lave, it should kill the orbs you've collected.

I'm one of the few people that has no problems with the new version. Those abandoned mineshafts are everywhere, found a lot of NPC villages, no Strongholds/Ruins, a few rivers and ravines, Enderman... fuck. The new lighting looks different, no chunks XD!

I actually like the new food system. Just equip yourself with a few cooked porkchops, a diamond sword, and you'll be good to go fighting monsters for a good deal of time. It's better than direct health via food, because the regeneration effect lasts a good amount of time when you are full. And it's better than auto regeneration without food, which made the fighting model too easy and boring.

I kept on thinking of this when trying to remember what the new monster is called

New patch seems to be buggy as fuck. I'm crashing every 3 or 4 minutes. Game just locked up and a creeper blew me up after 45 minutes of mining in the middle of fucking nowhere. Unimpressed. I'll wait til the real 1.8 comes out or we go back to our 1.7.3 map.

It really does require a different way of approaching the game.

At first I was pissed but I changed my "grab all my inventory and head out 234260934 units in a random direction" style of play and set up a fort at bedrock.

Bedrock seems to be the safest place once you get torches up. I brought down some trees, seeds, and water so I have an underground farm to keep me supplied with food while I strip-mine the surrounding area. (still only found 4 goddamn diamond)

Also, actually having armor and a sword helps. A lot.

(btw, Rotten Flesh actually benefits you in the pre-release patch. Eat it, it'll poison you but instead of losing health, you end up taking half-damage from monsters while poisoned).

Sounds like a good idea. I was decked out in full iron armor. Like I said, the game just locked and 10 seconds later I was dead. *shrug*

EDIT: I'd be inclined to try your fort idea if I could play for longer than 4 minutes at a time. I think the master MC is giving me shit from repeated login attempts after every time I crash, too. The game kept telling me it couldn't connect to the server.

Yeah, the server was having connection issues yesterday. It seemed to resolve itself (unless mjrpes hopped on and did something to fix it)

hmmm, i've got to admit it's kinda growing on me after playing this afternoon, and i might well try silicone's 'base at bedrock' idea - sounds like a solid plan. also, found 5 diamond already :D

one thing though mjrpes: is there any way you can remove that restriction on block destroying/placing at spawn? (or at the very least use your awesome nerdmin powers to cover over those BIG FUCKING HOLES YOU CAN'T GET OUT OF)

protip: log in once, then leave the launcher window open for as long as your pc is running

minecraft.net is taking longer and longer to log in these days. usually takes me 3 attempts before getting in

Yeah minecraft.net is down for me as well.

RE: crashing -- it's not the server, it's the game. It just closes itself randomly and dumps me to desktop with no error message. I think it has a memory leak. The game has a fucking +1GB memory footprint. Am I a retard or does that seem fucking excessive?

Are you saying there is separate software for launching the game? For me, the launcher just turns into the game once I log in...
