I'll be playing around with settings in overviewer to make it more stable, or experiment with other mapping programs if that doesn't work.

sat around at the mob trap (about 40 blocks away) and let minecraft idle while I worked on fixing my old site.

The trap wasn't netting many mobs though (they rarely fell down in one of the holes in the corners of the room) so I made a slight modification.

Pullin in a lot more mobs now and also fixed the water issue at the collection point.

my preference is survival because the game gets stale rather quick without some difficulty involved.

but we can give creative mode a shot...

i hear what you're saying, but it would be nice to have the freedom to build some epic structures without the grinding tedium of mining

edit: ok i see the server has been updated, but i can't log in. is it same address as before?

also, has anyone else noticed the version number still says "1.8 pre-release"?

I logged in without problem. It should say 1.8-beta. Maybe try force update?

it's pretty sweet. I thought i had messed up textures when i saw I was missing health and food meters. Great to see that the 1.7.3 map is still in use :)

I'll wait for the survial mode. I really liked it on the old server with my lava pyramid. Sure I died a lot but that's what makes things fun. That and creating death traps... lol...

I think I'll mostly sit out until survival again. I like the struggle of mining vs. creating. Makes your creations have more oomph when you look at them and say "damn, that took me x amount of days! that's fuckin sweet!" rather than just building whatever the hell in 30 minutes. I'll probably still come in and do a few things though :p

i can safely say after 5 hours of building, that building takes much longer than a mere 30 minutes.

dunno seems more rewarding to me to have an epic castle after a day or two of building rather than a boring mineshaft and a square house after a week.

Not to mention, it's nice to actually populate the map with awesome buildings and contraptions. Especially with the crazy amounts of room we've got.

That depends on what you find rewarding. I find determination rewarding, even in something as mindless as Minecraft.

I kind of see it like this:

When creating a level for Quake 3, is it more rewarding to get a creation out ready for alpha testing in a week or to spend 3 months writing the .map file out by hand in notepad?

Just my opinion anyways.

it's not quite the same. The similarities are that one is a quick enjoyable process with the resources you need at your fingertips to get something built. The other is a tedious mind-numbing process.

I'll be on to work on the castle some more tomorrow. I feel like I wasted enough time today building :P
