Goddamnit, i had a momentary lapse of sanity, installed Origin and preordered it. Memph phant and 4days, you slags better get this as well or i will be most upset :owned:

PS Origin is not as bad as i feared... but it's pretty shit all the same. I'm still really worried i might not get to play this game on day one due to EA failure.

Done, and I have the same impression of Origin. It takes 70-90MB of memory just sitting in the system tray (compared to 2-4 for Steam). Fingers crossed that it works on the day.

Origin? It's going to be about £30 wherever you go and I guess Origin has a reasonable chance of the game being available from day one.

It'll soon be on Green Man Gaming, which usually offer 20% pre-order discounts, amongst other codes. Best save your orders until then imo.

first impressions from someone at RPS:
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/09 ... ld-3-beta/

..obviously it begins with a glowing report for Origin and the flawless match-joining system.

So, the hurdle to jump through before I could get to the point where I tried to hover a reticule over a man’s face was the new server browser/friend management/character system. This all works through your browser, and in my case wanted to download two plugins for Chrome so it could do whatever the hell it was doing. Initially, I thought my only option was to press the big QUICK MATCH button as everything else was apparently disabled for the beta. This didn’t go well, as it placed me in a 80-strong queue and then accused my client of being out of date and kicked me right out when I finally got to the head of the line some 20 minutes later.

In a bit of a mood by that point, I explored the web interface further and found the actual server browser, wherein I was able to track down a game with a few spaces free and join within a couple of minutes (though the game was still launched via a JOIN GAME button in my browser – trying to load the client myself only opened another browser window). In the human versus computer stakes, I was therefore winning – but I guess the match auto-finder might get a bit more reliable once the initial crush has died down.
Oh god :(
Imma wait till it's out officially i think, in the futile belief they'll fix things like this before then.

The one appealing aspect of origin is the idea of account banning for hackers. BFBC2 is absolutely fucking rife with it at the moment, and you don't see that kinda shit on Valve games because of VAC banning.

+1 to that. Its gets tiring playing a game where someone is going 40+ kills with a few deaths, and sniping people across the map with an assault rifle.

LOL i've never played a BF game online, but trying that, I didn't even know who the fuck I was sposed to be shooting at. Literally just sniper camp fags everywhere. Oh and you can't change the mouse binds yet in the beta version, or the FOV. It didn't even look that impressive imo.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

All the Caspain border servers were passworded for testing, somehow it was leaked. If you happened to get on one, most of the servers from one provider were like that..i swear they mustve been running all 6 servers on one machine. When I joined a EU server it wasn't like that. I cant believe Kotaku would use a leaked password then post up a video like that from a testing server.

you should be happy, the only map right now in the beta is infantry only rush map. trying to lure the cod fanboys. pretty disappointing.

I spent an entire night getting my ass pounded over and over till I learned the layout, you could tell the people who were in the alpha trial were having fun with all the fresh meat.
