Is this safe? Do you do it regularly? I did some reading into this and found that it's possible to get banned, i.e. if your IP changes too drastically [from EU to US and then back within a few minutes].

I've only done it once and there was no issues. I know a few people who do it with all their purchases and they have never had any repercussions from steam. Note that using a vpn to purchase games is another matter entirely and you will get your account suspended for that.

It's slightly disappointing id Software are still stuck in 1993 when it comes to gameplay, but at the same time I wasn't expecting anything else. So to be honest, I'm not sure if I'll dislike the game as much as the reviewer. And to be honest, the review reads a lot like a rant than an actual review.

To offer some contrast:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011- ... age-review

Eurogamer give it an 8/10. Their conclusion:
Judged on game design and content, then, it's slightly anachronistic, but as a toy box full of things you can only do in games, Rage is warm-hearted and refreshing. It's not going to change the world, but it does serve as a timely reminder of that other thing id Software games always did besides smashing through some new technological barrier. They made shooting things fun, and it's nice to have that back.
And I think that's probably the right way to approach this game.

edit:
all the review scores on metacritic:

9.5 GamingTrend
9.5 TeamXbox
9.1 3DJuegos
9.0 Meristation
9.0 Machinima
9.0 GameTrailers
9.0 AusGamers
9.0 IncGamers
8.9 Computer and Video Games
8.5 IGN
8.0 GamePro
8.0 GameSpot
8.0 Gamereactor
8.0 Gameblog.fr
8.0 Eurogamer
8.0 Eurogamer Italy
8.0 Guardian
8.0 Official Xbox Magazine UK
7.5 Game Revolution
7.5 1UP
7.5 Offical Xbox Magazine
7.0 Telegraph
7.0 Destructoid
6.5 Strategy Informer
6.0 Joystiq
5.8 Gaming Age

That averages up to 8.05
Not too bad I guess.

Oh and while it's unlocking and downloading the updates, i'm reading on the net about how it's a crappy port, with no graphic adjustments of any kind bar the resolution, no fov adjustment (and default of 60 AGAIN ffs), no vsync, mouse accel... oh god, here we go again.

Not what you expect from an id game.

It's iD's new anti-piracy strategy; making games that aren't worth pirating.

Just curious: why is adjusting your FOV so important? I don't think I've ever done this in any game other than Quake 3 nor have I felt the need to do so. And I did play Q3 at the default 90 fov for a very long time.

Been reading a lot and apparently, the PC version is a buggy consolified horror of a game.
I just cancelled my preorder of the Anarchy edition. Let's see some patches first before I spent money on this.

This video explains it all perfectly. Ironic that it's for developers, when not a single one of them implements it properly for the PC.

And I can confirm the default fov is the worst in any PC video game i've ever played. That includes BF:BC2 too. Luckily, easy to adjust
