DNF now running on.....

Unreal Engine 3
DUKE NUKEM FOREVER TO APPEAR AT E3...

...In 2006. The world's longest running development saga rolls on as US journos get sneak peek of 3D Realms' forgotten FPS

15:39 Duke Nukem Forever, sequel to 1996's awesome Duke Nukem 3D and contender for Longest Videogame Development Time ever award, actually does exist and it's eyeing up an E3 appearance.

Next year, mind. Apparently, US journos have been privy to a sneak peek of 3D Realms' eagerly awaited FPS. Although they didn't get to actually play it they did see around 20 minutes of footage, and received a promise that more was to come in 2006.

Duke Nukem Forever has gone through game engines like we go through joypads during our lunchtime Pro Evo sessions, but we recently reported that 3D Realms had settled on Unreal Engine 3. Then the developer recently announced that Prey, another FPS missing in action since the 90s, would be making a comeback powered by the Doom 3 engine. Perhaps 3D Realms were just enjoying a nice long break...

Yea it was in that magazine scan that somebody posted (odium?).

Not going to be at E3 this year, but supposed to be released in 2006, according to that article.

Q2, unreal, unreal 2, this...

Quite a few engines. They need to be careful, because it appears while wanting to look the best, they never get anything done, so by the time they are done wit ha lot of it, something better comes along and they want to be better again.

UE3 should give them a few years, but still... Its getting a bit stupid now. I liked duke 3d, but i liked it because of how pointless and stupid it was.

Didn't you know? Its the new trend to take this long on games.

Devs are too busy "wanting to be small, close companies" instead of opening up into bigger teams, so these kind of games take forever.

And the pay off? A nice looking pitch black corridor that you will only be able to play for 3 hours anyways before you have done everything.

The puplishers really gotta belive in the games... i guess they are paying the bills until the game is out.

I dont understand how you can have 20+ guys working on a game for 3 years.... do they work for free??
Thats alot of cash floating around... so the day the game hit the shelfs, they are like 3-4 years BEHIND in budget already ... because of all expense/Wages.

Like what? Go to EA so you can make another reharshed dry shooter like James Bond: The World Is Never Enough?

Small teams are usually the ones that start the most original and fun games, but whether or not those games are finished on time or finished at all is another story. :clownboat:

Christ. Unreal 2 was released what, 2 years ago? Why in the hell do they need to shift to a new engine? :icon19:

IF they even are working on it ( ;) ), I think they're afraid of it not living up to the original, so they're going over the top trying to make it as good as possible. But was it graphics that made the original Duke 3D so good? No, not for me at least. I think they really need to shift their focus, or end up with something like DooM3. :\

Duke 3D was behind it's time when it came out anyway. They obviously suck at being current, so they shouldn't bother.

The real problem with DNF is that many of the original Duke fans will have grown up to the point at which they realize it's all rather tawdry by the time it's released in 10 years. Plus they'll all have a mortgage
